Before you became the business titan you are today, enlighten us about the thrilling adventures of your pre-business life.
Before becoming the business titan I am today, I built a strong foundation in customer service, starting work at 16 years old while braiding hair on the side as one of the go-to neighborhood hair braiders. Over the years, I expanded my skills, becoming a licensed insurance agent and later spending eight years at a collection law firm. Despite my corporate success, my passion for beauty and entrepreneurship never faded. In 2019, I took a leap of faith, leaving the 9-to-5 world to become a full-time entrepreneur, and I haven’t looked back since.
Could you elaborate on the nature of your initiative/business/current role, highlighting its purpose and the ways it benefits people?
As the owner of Precious Designs and Wellness and Spa Suites, I provide top-tier beauty and wellness services, specializing in professional hairstyling and offering my exclusive luxury hair extension brand to clients seeking premium hair services. My passion for elevating industry professionals led me to create a professional uniform brand, catering to students in cosmetology, barbering, esthetics, and makeup artistry, as well as professionals in the hospitality and medical industry. Beyond business, I am dedicated to community impact through my nonprofit, Take My Hand Foundation, which focuses on empowering and supporting underserved individuals, fostering opportunities for personal and professional growth.
What has been the response of the users/consumers towards your venture? (You can also talk about your recognitions/achievements here.)
Since the beginning of my journey in the beauty industry, my business has thrived on referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations. I like to call myself a generational hairstylist because once I style a client’s hair, they refer me to their family and friends, creating a legacy of trust and loyalty that spans across generations. My ability to build deep connections with my clients has not only fueled my success but also positioned me as a mentor and role model. I’ve been invited to speak to the youth, sharing words of encouragement and promoting self-care, confidence, and entrepreneurship, inspiring the next generation to pursue their passions.
Having a strong support system is essential for your well-being. We would love to know who your biggest supporter is. Share with us and let’s celebrate the amazing people in our lives who make a positive impact.
Having a strong support system of family and friends has been the foundation of my success. As a teen mother, I faced the challenges of providing for my child while pursuing my passion and building my career. I was blessed to have the support of my children’s father. My best friends, who stood by me through every obstacle, ensured I never felt alone on my journey. My family and extended family played a crucial role, offering love, guidance, and encouragement, allowing me to work, grow, and create opportunities for a better future. I am forever grateful to everyone who has helped me along the way, shaping me into the woman and entrepreneur I am today.
As a woman entrepreneur, what changes do you hope to see in the world and what opportunities are you seeking?
As a woman entrepreneur, I hope to see more collaboration among women across different industries, building together, sharing knowledge, and creating opportunities that uplift and empower one another. There is incredible power in unity and collective success, and I envision a world where women entrepreneurs support each other in breaking barriers and achieving financial independence. I am actively seeking ways to become a stronger resource for entrepreneurs, providing valuable information, mentorship, and opportunities that help others navigate their journeys. Whether through education, networking, or business development, my goal is to be a bridge that connects aspiring entrepreneurs to the tools and insights they need to succeed.
Women now stand shoulder-to-shoulder with men in the workplace, breaking through glass ceilings to reach the top. What are your thoughts on women’s leadership today?
I am incredibly proud to be a woman in today’s world, where strength, confidence, and resilience are not only embraced but celebrated. Women’s leadership has evolved tremendously, and while challenges still exist, we now have the power, voice, and platform to navigate and overcome obstacles that once held us back. There was a time when women were not afforded the same opportunities, but today, we are breaking barriers, leading industries, and making impactful decisions in business and society. As a woman entrepreneur, I embrace the responsibility to inspire and uplift others, proving that success is limitless when we stand in our power.
