What if the most important measure of leadership isn’t what you build, earn, or accomplish—but who you become while doing it?
For Douglas C. Webster, that question is deeply personal. His mission to empower women is rooted in the nine women closest to his life: his wife, two daughters, daughter-in-law, and five granddaughters. “I want to do all that I can to love and to empower, to respect, to encourage,” he says.
Through Jesus College, Webster is turning that conviction into a global model for learning, relationships, and socially conscious leadership. The nonprofit provides courses, resources, gatherings, and relationships designed to help people live what he calls a “flourishing life.”
Leadership Coaching Begins With Better Questions
In a business environment increasingly shaped by growth complexity, accountability, messaging challenges, and pressure to scale, Webster argues that leaders need more than operational systems. They need a compass.
His framework—the 4MIQ (Four Most Important Questions)—asks:
- What is reality?
- What is a good life?
- Who is a good person?
- Where can I learn this?
His central principle is striking: “The most important thing you can have is a good relationship with reality.”
For entrepreneurs, coaches, and women in leadership, that means confronting what is actually true about their business, values, clients, capabilities, and goals before building strategies around them.
From Business Growth Systems to Character
Webster believes ideas ultimately govern behavior. “Words come from ideas and ideas govern our lives,” he explains.
That insight has practical implications for entrepreneurship. Clear values can sharpen messaging. A defined Ideal Client Profile can improve client acquisition. Strong leadership development can strengthen delegation and team accountability. Scalable business systems can create capacity—but character determines how that capacity is used.
Jesus College has reached people in 62 countries, with more than 3,600 students participating in its courses. Its library includes 24 courses available through online learning, study guides, and resources.
Women Empowerment Through Identity, Purpose and Hope
One of Webster’s most powerful initiatives is the Lydia’s of Pakistan gathering, created to encourage and empower young women.
Inspired by Lydia, a businesswoman and influential figure in the New Testament, the gatherings bring women together around three themes: identity, purpose, and hope.
The approach demonstrates an important lesson for socially conscious leadership: empowerment becomes more powerful when leaders create platforms for others to lead, speak, and grow—not when they position themselves as the sole authority.
Execution Tip
Ask yourself the 4MIQ before your next growth decision: What is actually true? What does a good outcome look like? Who do I need to become to achieve it? And where can I learn what I don’t yet know?
