Serena Martino is a leadership coach whose journey from corporate leadership to conscious, people-centered coaching is rooted in courage, clarity, and deep listening. After years of navigating boardrooms and leading teams, she embraced a more purpose-driven path—one that helps professionals realign their careers, identities, and lives with intention. We’re featuring her because her story embodies what Humans of Fuzia stands for: elevating women’s voices, championing thoughtful leadership, and empowering our 5M+ global community with real stories of transformation.
Q: What inspired you to start your coaching journey? Was there a moment or person that sparked it?
A: It was a moment of transition more than a single event. After years in corporate leadership, I began noticing how often I felt like I had to hold everything—every decision, every responsibility. I was craving a different way of supporting people, one rooted in listening and empowering others. During COVID, when so many were going through major life and career shifts, I decided to go deeper into coaching. I completed my certification, started my business, and realized I could impact more people than I ever could inside a single organization.
Q: What challenges did you face while establishing yourself as a coach, and how did you navigate them?
A: Beyond the usual business challenges—finding clients, defining services—the biggest hurdle was identity. I had to let go of the professional identity I had built for years and reintroduce myself in a new light. That transition was uncomfortable, but also powerful. The very struggles I faced helped shape how I coach today. Now, I support others who are navigating similar crossroads, helping them realign their professional paths with who they truly are.
Q: What has been your proudest milestone so far?
A: The turning point was realizing I didn’t need to chase every opportunity. In the beginning, I was running in every direction—corporate coaching, workshops, different programs. Eventually, I paused and asked myself what I really wanted to do. Choosing alignment over urgency and learning to say no felt like real growth. That shift happened in the last couple of years, and it made me incredibly proud.
Q: Are you a solopreneur, or do you work with a team?
A: I’m a solopreneur, though I collaborate with other coaches. I don’t aspire to build something big or highly scalable right now. My goal is to create something unique and meaningful, rather than focusing on rapid growth. I’ve scaled businesses before, but this time, I’m intentionally choosing a different path.
Q: What is your perspective on women in leadership today?
A: Women have made incredible progress, but the challenges are still real—especially for women who are parents, the only woman in the boardroom, or navigating male-dominated environments. Leadership is evolving, and companies are slowly recognizing that effective leadership doesn’t have to be masculine or crisis-driven. Women bring a different kind of strength—one that’s sustainable, reflective, and grounded. When women embrace these strengths, they shine, and it transforms workplaces.
Q: What message would you give to aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
A: Don’t assume your strengths are weaknesses just because you’ve been told so. We show ambition, strength, and leadership differently—and that’s a superpower. Learn to use your natural strengths to your advantage. Be yourself, and let that be your competitive edge.
Q: What is your idea of success, both professionally and personally?
A: I don’t separate the two. We are one person, living one life. That’s why my philosophy is “work by design, life by design.” Success is not perfection or external validation—it’s about making conscious choices, working with intention, and evolving over time. When you find your own path, you naturally help others find theirs too. That’s what real, lasting success looks like.
“Success is not a single moment—it’s a long-term alignment between who you are, how you work, and the life you want to build.”
