For Maxine Brown of MKB Healthy Living, that belief has become the foundation of her next chapter. Now “99% retired,” Brown is using her years of experience to create a free text-based support service for people struggling with loneliness, grief, or simply needing someone to talk to. “I just want to support people and give them that chance to be able to mostly answer their questions,” she explains.
That mission reflects a growing leadership challenge in 2026. As entrepreneurs and small businesses increasingly rely on digital tools, AI and online communication, human connection can become an overlooked growth and wellbeing system.
Leadership Coaching Starts With Listening
Brown understands that entrepreneurship can be isolating. “It is very, very lonely because you’re very insular because you want to get everything out,” she says.
For entrepreneurs, leadership is therefore not simply about strategy, sales funnels or business growth systems. It is also about believing in an idea, communicating it clearly and finding people who can provide genuine human connection.
Her own experience reinforces this. Brown believes one-to-one, face-to-face interaction remains important, even while technology allows her to support more people through text.

Brown’s approach to delegation offers another practical lesson for small business leadership. Entrepreneurs do not need to do everything themselves.
“If there’s a part of the administration or looking for podcasts, sending emails like that, then yes, I would look for somebody outside and look for a PA, a virtual assistant,” she says.
The principle is simple: identify where your strengths create the most value and delegate tasks that consume time without requiring your expertise. For growing coaches, consultants and entrepreneurs, that can create space for leadership development, client acquisition, authority building and strategic growth.
Building Authority Through Conversations
Brown sees podcasts as an ideal growth channel because they fit her lifestyle while allowing her to reach people remotely. She also believes conversations around mental health for solo entrepreneurs could create meaningful communities.
Her perspective points to a broader opportunity: speaking opportunities, podcasts and authentic conversations can strengthen authority while building relationships—not merely generating visibility.
