Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Coaching, Women Empowerment, Growth Systems and Social Impact: David Wilkinson on Scaling Businesses Without Losing Yourself

David Wilkinson

What if doubling your business revenue didn’t require doubling your working hours?

For David Wilkinson, the answer lies not in working harder, but in creating the margin to work smarter. With 26 years of coaching experience, more than 20 companies founded across nonprofit and for-profit sectors, and a focus on entrepreneurs generating between $0 and $10 million, David has built his career around one central question: How can entrepreneurs grow without allowing growth to consume them?

Through Humans of Fuzia, a global thought-leadership platform at the intersection of leadership, entrepreneurship, coaching, women empowerment, and socially conscious business, these conversations uncover the real patterns behind entrepreneurial growth—from client acquisition and leadership development to delegation and sustainable execution.

From a Visionary Leadership Course to 26 Years of Coaching

David’s entrepreneurial journey began unexpectedly in January 2000, after co-teaching a visionary leadership course with his father.

At the end of the three-day program, several business leaders approached him with an unconventional proposition: they wanted him to coach their people, teams, and organizations—and teach him about business along the way.

That moment launched a 26-year coaching career.

Today, David works across nine industries and focuses primarily on entrepreneurs between startup and $10 million in revenue.

Building a Client Acquisition Funnel Through Strategic Partnerships

One of David’s earliest challenges was straightforward: how do you consistently fill a coaching pipeline when nobody knows you?

His breakthrough came when he was invited to speak at a business chamber event in Orlando alongside Truett Cathy, founder of Chick-fil-A.

David briefly mentioned his executive coaching program from the stage. Twenty-five people approached him afterward wanting to learn more.

The lesson shaped his business development strategy ever since: build relationships where your ideal clients already gather.

For David, chambers became a repeatable client acquisition channel—not simply networking opportunities, but platforms for authority building, speaking, and relationship-driven lead generation.

Delegation, Productivity and the Power of Margin

David challenges the assumption that revenue growth requires longer hours.

His framework, Shattering the 80-20 Principle, focuses on systematically reviewing everything consuming an entrepreneur’s time.

The questions are practical:

  • What can be eliminated?
  • What can be delegated?
  • What can be postponed?
  • What activities are actually generating revenue?

His bigger idea is margin: the space between operating at 80% and reaching 100% capacity.

That margin allows you to have the space to become very creative.

Without margin, opportunities become stressful. With it, entrepreneurs have the energy and focus to pursue them.

The Leadership Challenge of Honest Entrepreneurship

For David, entrepreneurial honesty begins with a difficult question: Are you being honest with yourself?

He distinguishes honesty from simply keeping promises to others. Authentic entrepreneurship requires examining what you genuinely want from your business, relationships, finances, clients, and life.

His insight is particularly relevant in 2026, when entrepreneurs are surrounded by pressure to grow faster, work harder, and constantly optimize.

Growth is valuable—but only when it serves a business and life the founder actually wants.

Execution Tip

Audit your calendar this week and identify three activities that are neither revenue-generating nor strategically important. Eliminate, delegate, or postpone them. Then protect that newly created margin for high-value work.

David Wilkinson’s journey demonstrates that sustainable business growth is ultimately a leadership discipline. Build the funnel, develop strategic partnerships, delegate intelligently, protect your margin, and—perhaps most importantly—learn to ask yourself the questions you may not want to answer.

That is the kind of real-world entrepreneurial learning Humans of Fuzia exists to document: not just what successful leaders achieved, but how they think, adapt, and grow along the way.
