Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Coaching and Women Empowerment: Katie Matthews on Growth Systems, Career Change and Social Impact | Humans of Fuzia

Katie Matthews

What if the career that fulfills you most is the one you have not discovered yet? For career coach Katie Matthews, meaningful professional growth begins with curiosity, self-awareness, and the courage to explore new possibilities.

Through its Honest Entrepreneurs series, Humans of Fuzia (HOF) brings forward the real stories behind leadership, entrepreneurship, coaching, and socially conscious business. As a global thought-leadership platform focused on women empowerment and entrepreneurial growth, HOF offers coaches and small-business entrepreneurs practical insights into building meaningful work and sustainable businesses.

From Student Volunteering to Career Coaching

Matthews’ journey began at 18, when she volunteered for a university student helpline. Listening to others and helping fellow students became the foundation of a career spanning teaching, careers guidance, and coaching.

Her experience supporting young people, university students, and job seekers eventually led her toward helping adults who feel dissatisfied with their careers or uncertain about their next move.

Reflecting on her early experiences, Matthews shared a simple philosophy: “I always say to people I coach, just follow what you’re curious about.”

Her approach challenges the idea that successful careers must follow a fixed plan. Sometimes, professional direction emerges through small experiences, unexpected interests, and a willingness to explore.

Leadership Coaching and Business Growth in 2026

For coaches and entrepreneurs in 2026, expertise alone is rarely enough. Messaging clarity, consistent client acquisition, effective business systems, and the ability to stand out in crowded markets have become important growth priorities.

Matthews openly identified marketing as her biggest business challenge. While referrals and word-of-mouth recommendations bring clients, she wants to build more consistent communication with potential customers.

As she explained, “I’d like that to be a bit more, to kind of have regular messages going out to potential clients.”

Her experience highlights a common challenge in coaching businesses: delivering valuable services does not automatically create visibility.

A practical growth strategy begins with defining an ideal client profile (ICP). For Matthews, this includes people, particularly those in their 30s and beyond, who want a career change or greater professional satisfaction.

From there, coaches can strengthen their LinkedIn presence, publish useful insights, develop referral partnerships, and create a simple follow-up system. Relevant speaking opportunities and professional events can further build authority and attract aligned clients.

As businesses grow, scalable execution also requires systems that reduce repetitive work and free leaders to focus on client outcomes.

Execution Tip

Identify one specific audience you want to reach. This week, publish one LinkedIn post addressing a challenge they face, share one practical solution, and invite them to start a conversation. Consistency is more sustainable when marketing has a clear purpose.
