Q: When you started your journey as a consultant, what was your biggest inspiration?
Julian Roberts: My journey was born out of a shift from a toxic corporate environment and a desire for more flexibility as my wife and I were preparing to foster a child. I realized that while I loved sales and strategy, what truly energized me was working with people—spotting and unlocking talent. That led me to retrain as a coach with the purpose of unlocking human potential, something I now get to do every day.

Q: You’ve authored a book titled Weathering the Storm. Could you share what it’s about?
Julian Roberts: Weathering the Storm: A Guide to Building Resilient Teams came from my work with leaders and teams, along with my master’s research in psychology. I noticed a lack of resources on team resilience, so I wrote about the core principles—purpose, psychological safety, resilient processes, and leadership. The book addresses how to navigate the certainties of uncertainty, failure, and change.

Q: You also host a podcast. Tell us more about that.
Julian Roberts: I started Helping Organizations Thrive in August 2020 during the pandemic to help leaders shift from a survival mindset to a thriving one. I interview leaders, resilience experts, Olympians, and record holders from all over the world. After more than 270 episodes, the core remains leadership, resilience, and inspiring people to lead through uncertainty.

Q: As an entrepreneur, what have been your biggest challenges?
Julian Roberts: Unpredictability has been the biggest challenge—client changes, delays, and of course, losing 65% of my business overnight during COVID. I’ve had to adapt my outreach, find what works, and lean into personal resilience practices like gratitude, mindfulness, and staying connected to a supportive community. Life isn’t meant to be done alone, and entrepreneurship is no exception.

Q: Is there a remarkable woman or women who have inspired you in your career?
Julian Roberts: Absolutely. I’ve had inspiring women on my podcast, like Christy Ashley and Sally Orange, who’ve achieved incredible feats of endurance while overcoming cancer. And I can’t forget my four daughters—they inspire me daily with their independence, hard work, and the way they push boundaries while doing good in the world.

Q: AI is a hot topic today. What are your thoughts on its role in your industry?
Julian Roberts: AI is here to stay, and while it will change certain jobs, it will also create many new ones that require different skills. I use AI as a thinking partner—to brainstorm ideas for workshops or marketing strategies—while keeping the human element central. It’s a tool to enhance productivity and insight, not replace the human touch.

“Life’s not meant to be done alone—whether in leadership, entrepreneurship, or personal growth, community and connection are key.” – Julian Roberts
