Sometimes, the most powerful journeys begin in life’s most uncertain moments. Hilary Porta’s story is one of resilience, reinvention, and rising from personal adversity to create meaningful change—not just for herself, but for countless women navigating transitions of their own. What inspired you to start your entrepreneurial journey?
Where I am now came from a very messy, high-conflict divorce—something you’d never wish on anyone. But at the same time, I feel deep gratitude for it because it cracked me wide open and helped me truly learn who I was at my core. Beyond titles like Senior Vice President or being someone’s spouse, I had to rediscover how I wanted to show up in the world—and more importantly, how I could support others in doing the same.
What challenges did you face when starting out as an entrepreneur?
Starting a company while managing a divorce and raising two small children was incredibly challenging. I wanted to ensure my children never felt like they were coming second to my work. So, building a private practice that allowed me to still attend school events, read bedtime stories, and be present as a mother was essential. Like most entrepreneurs in the early days, I found myself wearing every hat—CEO, CMO, CFO—all at once, trying to hold it all together while creating something meaningful.
What has been your proudest milestone so far?
Through my work, I’ve had the opportunity to support women in rebuilding their lives after difficult situations. One of the proudest moments has been raising $2.1 million to assist women in getting back on their feet—whether it’s helping them pursue education, secure transportation, or regain independence. Knowing that we’re creating generational change is incredibly fulfilling.
Do you work solo, or do you have a team supporting you now?
I was a solopreneur for a long time, but as the work expanded, building a team became necessary. Today, I work alongside a small team of four incredible individuals who each bring their own strengths. It’s rewarding to create an environment where everyone gets to operate in their zone of genius with trust and collaboration.
How have your client engagements evolved over time?
Initially, my work focused on one-on-one mentorship and consulting. Over time, I’ve diversified into group programs, masterminds, and retreats. I now work selectively with a small number of private clients while also supporting women through digital programs that help them redesign their lives post-divorce. To date, over 200 women across nine countries have participated in these programs.
What are your thoughts on women in leadership today?
When I was coming up through the ranks, there were very few women in leadership roles. Today, it’s inspiring to see more women in executive positions shaping strategy and driving success. What’s even more encouraging is that leadership now allows space for authenticity rather than expecting women to conform to traditionally masculine leadership styles.
What message would you like to share with future women leaders?
Bet on yourself. Stand firm in your knowledge and believe in the value you bring to the table. Know who you are, what you believe in, and what you’re capable of. When you truly understand your identity, you can step into leadership with clarity and confidence—and that’s a game changer.
What does success mean to you?
For me, success is becoming unhurried—being able to truly experience life while helping elevate others. It’s not defined by numbers or financial milestones, but by the relationships you build and the impact you create along the way.
“Success is not about what you accumulate—it’s about what you give forward and the lives you help lift along the way.”
