Wendy Scharfman is a leadership and communication coach whose journey weaves together the worlds of psychology, performing arts, and personal growth. From acting on stage to guiding professionals in boardrooms, she has dedicated her life to helping people express themselves with courage, confidence, and authenticity. Her story is one of resilience, reinvention, and the belief that when we show up as our true selves, we unlock our greatest impact.
Q: What inspired you to begin your journey as an entrepreneur?
I started out in mental health after completing a Master’s in Psychology, but my heart was always in the performing arts. I pursued music, singing, and acting, even earning a Master of Fine Arts in Acting in New York. Over time, I realized I wanted to bring these two worlds together—helping people not just with their ideas, but with the way they communicate them. Coaching felt like the natural path, allowing me to use my performance and communication skills to help others articulate their value and inspire others.
Q: What challenges did you face early on, and how did you overcome them? As an actor, one of the biggest challenges was finding consistent work—you’re always waiting to be chosen. Coaching gave me more control. I could decide when and how much to work. Of course, every client is different, so another challenge has been learning to adapt—listening deeply, meeting people where they are, and tailoring my approach to help each individual grow.
Q: Who has been your support system along the way?
I’ve had wonderful mentors who offered valuable guidance, a supportive life partner, and the encouragement of family and friends. But I’d say my greatest source of support has been myself. Over the years, through trial and error, I’ve become self-reliant and confident in my abilities. Coaching is often a solitary profession—you and the client—so self-belief is essential.
Q: How does your work make a difference in people’s lives?
I often say I love helping people remember who they are. When we show up authentically—when we can articulate and own our voice—that’s when we truly connect with others. I’ve seen how developing strong communication not only boosts leadership but also gives people the courage and confidence to step fully into their impact.
Q: What advice do you have for future women leaders and entrepreneurs? Do something that has meaning for you. If it matters to you, it will matter to others. We all take
jobs to survive, but if you can find work that resonates with your passion, your impact will naturally be greater.
Q: What is your idea of success?
For me, success is knowing that I’ve had a positive effect on someone—that through our relationship, they’ve gained new awareness, confidence, or tools to move forward. If I’ve helped them feel more connected, impactful, or empowered, then that’s success.
“As we show up most authentically in the world, we create the greatest impact. That authenticity is the magic sauce.” – Wendy Scharfman
