Virginia, tell us about your professional journey and how it led to Reku.
I’ve been in the tech industry for over 20 years, but my career started in law before moving into business operations, and eventually, talent acquisition. I first led executive recruitment for Amazon across EMEA during its largest European expansion. It was a turning point—I discovered my passion for building teams and scaling businesses. From there, I moved to AWS to lead professional services and technical recruitment, followed by heading talent for Zalando, Europe’s biggest online fashion retailer. Over three years, we made over 15,000 hires and launched various programs, including Women in Tech initiatives. Eventually, I realized I wanted to help multiple businesses, not just one. That’s how Reku was born, with my co-founder Alex Dengler. We both saw a need to support founders at different stages, providing tailored talent solutions to help them scale successfully.
Are you running Reku as a solopreneur, or do you have a team supporting you?
We are co-founders—Alex is based in Los Angeles, and I’m in London, though I spend significant time in the U.S. We have a growing team of consultants across the U.S., Europe, and soon in Latin America. It’s early days, so we’re building intentionally—hiring the right talent to support our clients’ evolving needs as they grow. We want our own team to grow alongside the businesses we support.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs looking to start their own journey?
Once you feel that drive to be your own boss, it’s both exciting and a little scary. But remember—you’ve been preparing your whole life. Whether you start early or later, trust your skills and experiences. If you have a great product or service that improves people’s lives, go for it. It’s rewarding to realize what you’re capable of. That said, entrepreneurship requires sacrifices, time management, and learning to prioritize. You’ll wear many hats, especially coming from corporate roles where there’s a large team to lean on. But the support is out there—you just need to ask. You probably already have a network of people willing to help. Don’t be afraid to lean on them.
Do you have any upcoming plans or launches you’d like to share?
We launched Reku earlier this year and have been focusing on supporting early-stage businesses with scaling their engineering and technical teams. As these businesses grow, we help them build out go-to-market and operations teams. The response has been fantastic so far, and we’re looking forward to expanding our services, continuing to support founders in building strong, scalable teams.
“Entrepreneurship is about trusting your journey, using your network, and believing in your ability to create impact—one decision at a time.”
