Could you describe your initiative/startup’s purpose and vision and how it benefits its target audience?
Detoxify Your Mind is a wellness initiative and coaching platform designed to help individuals break free from toxic thought patterns, reduce mental stress, and unlock purpose-driven potential. Rooted in my journey from childhood adversity, military service, and corporate leadership, this movement combines mindset coaching, practical tools, and faith-based principles to empower others to live with clarity and confidence. Through workshops and my book “Detoxify Your Mind”, we serve individuals and communities seeking mental renewal, legacy-building, and emotional wellness. Our vision is to create a ripple effect of healed minds and fulfilled lives starting with one thought at a time.

As far as entrepreneurship is concerned, your journey is quite inspiring. What are some of your most significant accomplishments and how did you achieve them?
One of my most significant accomplishments as an entrepreneur has been writing my book “Detoxify Your Mind”, which debuted as a #1 Amazon New Release in the Study and Teaching category. My journey began over two decades ago with my first company, a consultancy where I served as Communication Manager for Transnet Communications. That role took me around the world and working in satellite offices across Europe, Egypt, and India. Later, I hosted a 30-minute talk show on WOKB called “Unleash Your Personal Power”. Every step was fueled by personal development, facing fear, challenging limiting beliefs, and a deep desire to help others grow as I grew myself.

Being a entrepreneur, what kind of response have you received from your users/consumers?
The response to my book “Detoxify Your Mind” and coaching business has been deeply humbling and inspiring. One of the greatest rewards is hearing how the work has genuinely changed lives. An educator with over 20 years of experience shared that the book helped them connect with students on a whole new level, saying, “You cover every aspect of life… guiding readers through how thoughts shape actions and behavior.” A seasoned healthcare professional called it “a progressive journey of cleansing through abject honesty,” offering powerful aha moments for both beginners and experts. Topping it off, the book debuted #1 on Amazon—on my late mother’s birthday. That made it truly unforgettable.

In what ways has your life changed since you began your entrepreneurial journey?
Since beginning my entrepreneurial journey, my life has transformed in powerful ways. I’ve shifted from a fixed mindset to a growth mindset. Specifically, learning to embrace challenges, take risks, and view failure as fuel for growth. I’ve become more intentional, disciplined, and purpose-driven. Most importantly, I’ve discovered a deep passion for helping others overcome fear and limiting beliefs. Every step forward has elevated my mindset and positioned me to empower others to do the same.

That passion recently came full circle when I volunteered as a guest reader for a Head Start class of 3 to 5-year-olds. This is a program I proudly came through myself. My way of giving back to the community shaped me and planted seeds of confidence and curiosity in young minds. It wasn’t just about reading a book… it was about showing up, being present, and reminding them that their dreams matter. Experiences like this fuel my mission even more: to equip the next generation for success by starting with mindset early. Entrepreneurship has truly awakened the leader, healer, and builder within me.

Do you have anyone who is the biggest support system in your life? Please let us know.
I’m incredibly blessed to have a strong circle of support, and it would take all day to name everyone who’s played a role in my journey. I’ve recently formed a “Mastermind” team for Detoxify Your Mind Wellness & Coaching. They’re my sounding board, and I run everything by them before it ever reaches the public.

But above all, my greatest support system was my beloved mother, Mrs. Ruby Lightner-McGill. She passed in August 2024, but her presence and how she lived continue to guide me. She didn’t always give motivational speeches, but she led by example. At her homegoing, I shared that she left behind a 96-year blueprint: she was Resilient, Unique, Beautiful, and Young at heart. A true R.U.B.Y. I dedicated my book Detoxify Your Mind to her; everything I build now is in her honor.

What key pieces of advice/insights would you offer to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Here’s what I’d tell any aspiring entrepreneur: it’s simple enough for a third grader but powerful enough to change anyone’s life. First, clean up your thinking. Detoxify Your Mind is all about that. You can’t build something great if your mind is filled with doubt, fear, and toxic thoughts. Remove those and make room for belief, courage, and clear goals. Second, don’t be afraid to mess up. Mistakes are just part of the learning process. Every big win starts with a small step outside your comfort zone. Lastly, stay kind, stay curious, and always help others. When you grow, grow with heart. That’s how true success is built. And remember, “When All Is Said And Done… Let’s Make Sure More Is Done Than Said.”

Do you think ‘GENDER’ affects entrepreneurship? Your views
Oh wow, I really want to tread carefully here because this can be a slippery slope when answering this question! Ultimately, I believe that success in entrepreneurship isn’t about gender; it’s about the individual shaping it. It’s all about having the right mindset, being disciplined, and having the courage to rise above limiting beliefs. In my book, Detoxify Your Mind, I talk about the importance of removing toxic thoughts that hold us back, like doubt, fear, and comparison. These barriers are indifferent to gender, and success should be too. What truly matters is our willingness to grow, serve, and show up fully.

That said, while I believe success isn’t defined by gender, I can share that I was raised by both my parents, but my mom truly made a difference in our household. She was a mentally strong, hardworking African American woman who led by example every single day. So, I’ll admit, I might be a bit biased when it comes to gender and success.

That’s why I truly admire what Humans of Fuzia is doing. You’re not just offering opportunities; you’re creating a movement that celebrates the creativity, skill, and brilliance of women from over 35 countries in the professional world. That kind of empowerment really creates a ripple effect that inspires us all, whether we’re men or women.
