Stuart Pearce, the founder of TheSalesTrainer.uk, is a powerhouse in the world of sales coaching. From managing telesales teams to training hundreds across the UK and beyond, his journey began with a simple realization — the knowledge he shared daily was worth teaching the world. Today, Stuart is a respected author, keynote speaker, and mentor who inspires individuals to lead with authenticity and passion. His story is one of perseverance, humility, and an unshakeable belief in self-made success — values that deeply resonate with Humans of Fuzia’s mission to uplift and empower changemakers worldwide.
Q: What inspired you to start your journey as a sales trainer?
Stuart: It’s quite an odd story. I was managing a telesales team of about 30 people when our boss brought in an external trainer who charged £2,000 for an afternoon session. After the session, my team told the boss, “He didn’t tell us anything Stuart doesn’t tell us every day.” That’s when it hit me — I was working six days a week, and someone else was earning more in a few hours teaching what I already knew. That night, I told my wife, “I’m going to be a trainer.” And that’s how it all began.
Q: What were the biggest challenges when you started out, and how did you overcome them?
Stuart: In the early days, no one knows who you are. You don’t have a reputation yet. So, I focused on doing at least three things every day to move my business forward. I spoke at events, even for free, just to get known. Today, people invite me to speak at places like London Excel and other major events. But that visibility didn’t come overnight — it came from consistently showing up and building my reputation one step at a time.
Q: What’s your proudest achievement so far?
Stuart: That’s a tough one because I’ve been fortunate to win several awards and speak at incredible events like Selling South. But the proudest moments are still when I hold a freshly printed copy of one of my books in my hands. I’ve written three so far, with a fourth on the way — and every time, seeing my name on that cover gives me the same thrill as the first time.
Q: Do you work solo or have a team behind you now?
Stuart: I started solo — doing everything from training to accounting to IT. But now we’re a small team of five, including my youngest son who coordinates everything. We also have a development manager and an accountant. My advice to anyone starting out is this: if you don’t know how to do something well enough, pay someone who does. It saves you time and mistakes.
Q: What’s your perspective on women in leadership?
Stuart: Whether male or female, a leader is a leader. But I’ve observed that women leaders often approach things differently — they take a more thoughtful, analytical view, while men can be more black-and-white. Over my 30-year career, 80% of my bosses have been women, and I’ve seen how their patience and perspective often lead to better decisions. We men could learn a lot from that!
Q: What message would you share with aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
Stuart: My biggest piece of advice is — ignore the glass ceiling. Don’t even acknowledge it. If you want something, go for it. Learn your craft, focus on excellence, and never limit yourself based on others’ opinions. Every one of us is enough if we choose to be.
Q: What does success mean to you, personally and professionally?
Stuart: Professionally, it’s about being recognized as one of the best in your field — mastering your craft and being proud of it. Personally, it’s simpler: I have a wonderful family, a son I’m proud of, a home by the sea, and an office just five minutes away. I love what I do, and I get paid for it — that’s success to me.
“Find something you love doing — and get paid for it. That’s the key to happiness and success in any field.”
