Q: Sonya, what first inspired you to become a transformational life coach?
A: About five years ago, I hit rock bottom. I’ve lived with rheumatoid arthritis and fibromyalgia for years, and in 2020 my body completely shut down—I was hospitalized, barely able to breathe, and fighting for my life. As a nurse for 30 years, I had spent my whole life caring for others, but I had neglected myself. In that moment, seeing my daughter’s eyes through the glass of the isolation room, I knew I had to fight not just for me, but for my family. When I recovered, I decided I didn’t want to just exist—I wanted to truly live. That’s when my journey into transformational coaching began.
Q: You’ve been open about your health struggles. How did that shape your mission?
A: My illnesses don’t define me—they’re just part of my story. After my recovery, I realized I wanted to turn my pain into purpose. I began creating what is now my nine-pillar Energy Intelligence Method, a blueprint for resilience and wellbeing. That framework became my book Unshakable, which recently became a bestseller. My mission is to show others—especially women living with burnout, fear, or invisible illness—that they too can live well, even with limitations.
Q: Who do you primarily work with as a coach?
A: My key audience is mostly women who feel stuck—whether it’s burnout, fear, caregiving stress, or health challenges. I’ve worked with moms, caregivers, professionals, and also some men, especially in corporate or wellness spaces. While women are my main focus, I don’t exclude anyone—because resilience is something everyone needs.
Q: You’ve shared about your book Unshakable. What does it mean to you?
A: It’s more than a book—it’s a movement. Unshakable captures everything I’ve learned about healing, resilience, and gratitude. It’s my story of building a life where you can still thrive despite obstacles. Writing it was my way of giving back, of saying: “You are not your diagnosis, you are not your burnout—you are powerful, resilient, and capable of rising again.”
Q: What are your aspirations moving forward?
A: My biggest goal is to be on a TEDx stage by early 2026, sharing my story and blueprint with as many people as possible. I want my work to continue empowering people worldwide and to spread the message that you can live unshakable, no matter what you face.
Q: What challenges do you still face today?
A: Living with autoimmune conditions means I have to pace myself, even when I want to go full speed ahead. It’s about listening to my body and honoring rest when I need it. Another challenge is keeping up with the fast-changing digital world. There’s always new technology, new noise—it can feel overwhelming. But I try to stay authentic and true to myself, while continuing to learn.
Q: What message would you like to leave with our readers?
A: If life is shaking you to the core, remember this: your lowest point can become your turning point. You are not your illness, burnout, or fear—you are resilient, unshakable, and capable of transforming your life. Be unapologetically you, speak your truth, and never forget—you have the power to rise.
“Be unapologetically you. Ignite your light, transform your life, and live unshakable.” – Sonya McDonald
