Q: Nicole, what inspired you to begin your journey from psychotherapy to podcasting?
I was a psychotherapist for many years, and I noticed many of the women I worked with—especially teachers retiring in their mid-50s—were struggling to figure out what to do with the next chapter of their lives. They were intelligent, devoted, and capable, yet unsure how to use their potential moving forward. At the same time, I was seeking new challenges myself. When a technical assistant suggested I try podcasting, it immediately clicked. I love asking questions, connecting deeply, and bringing out stories—and my background as a therapist gave me a different style as an interviewer.

Q: What challenges did you face when establishing yourself as a podcaster, and how did you overcome them?
I’ve always described myself as a “dog with a bone”—I just keep going until I make progress. I stayed persistent, applying for awards, collaborating with people, and traveling across the U.S. and Europe to connect with inspiring guests. Instead of focusing on download numbers, I focused on what truly mattered—my love for meaningful conversations and my mission to share positivity with women. That mindset has helped me push past obstacles and stay motivated.

Q: What milestones are you especially proud of in your podcasting journey?
One highlight was attending a United Nations screening for a guest’s film about climbing Kilimanjaro as a trauma survivor—that experience was incredibly moving. Another unforgettable moment was riding along with a woman in Florida who hunts invasive Burmese pythons in the Everglades. I’ve also conducted deeply meaningful interviews, such as speaking with a human rights attorney in the Netherlands at the grave of WWII resistance fighter Hani Schaft. These experiences remind me why I continue this work—it has enriched my life a million times over.

Q: How do you see the role of women in leadership today?
I believe women bring distinct and essential qualities to leadership—holistic thinking, democratic values, and an ability to create inclusive spaces. In countries where women lead, we see remarkable differences. In fact, many of my guests have echoed that women in leadership may be our only way forward if we want to create a sustainable future.

Q: What message would you share with aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
It’s vital to find supportive, like-minded people who can help you stay grounded. The world can feel overwhelming, and isolation often leads to despair. Surround yourself with people who encourage you, collaborate with you, and share your energy for change. Even if your platform isn’t overtly political, you can still use your voice to stand for fairness, equity, and hope.

Q: Finally, how do you personally define success?
For me, success is about creating authentic connections and leaving a meaningful legacy. Living in a small town in upstate New York, I’ve become “a big fish in a small pond”—people recognize me from my podcast features, which is both funny and gratifying. But the true success comes from feedback—like a listener in Norway telling me she spent an entire day refinishing chairs while listening to my episodes. Those stories remind me that, in my own small way, I’m making a positive mark.
