Mim Senft: Redefining Leadership by Addressing Caregiving and Women’s Well-being

Mim Senft

Mim (Miriam) Senft is a mission-driven leader, entrepreneur, and co-founder of Global Women for Wellbeing, who has spent decades championing women’s health, leadership, and equity. Her journey—rooted in both professional research and deeply personal caregiving experiences—highlights a pressing truth: without addressing caregiving, financial stability, and health, women cannot fully thrive as leaders or entrepreneurs. Through her work with Global Women for Wellbeing and Motivity Care, she is building solutions that empower women to lead with strength, resilience, and authenticity.

Q: What inspired you to start Global Women for Wellbeing?
Mim: For years, we’ve talked about pay equity, healthcare equity, and leadership opportunities for women, yet real progress has been slow. We asked ourselves—why hasn’t it moved faster when technology and other sectors have advanced so rapidly? Our research showed that caregiving consistently appeared as the hidden factor affecting women’s careers. Whether it’s caring for children, aging parents, or even managing their own health, caregiving has a direct impact on women’s financial and professional stability. That realization drove us to create Global Women for Wellbeing, to advocate for healthier leadership and address these barriers head-on.

Q: You’ve spoken about caregiving as a turning point in your journey. Can you share a personal story?
Mim: Caregiving isn’t just a research topic for me—it’s personal. My husband was in a terrible hit-and-run accident. I received a call from the hospital telling me they were preparing him for surgery. In that moment, I had to drop everything—my business, my household, my commitments—without a plan in place. And that wasn’t the only experience. My sister-in-law had ALS, and my father battled pancreatic cancer. These situations taught me that unexpected caregiving can disrupt every part of our lives. That’s why I’m so passionate about creating resources and solutions that help women navigate caregiving while still protecting their careers and businesses.

Q: Why do you believe caregiving is such a critical issue for women leaders and entrepreneurs?
Mim: Caregiving impacts women differently than men. Men rarely get questioned about whether family responsibilities will affect their careers, but women do—constantly. This perception often costs women promotions, investments, and opportunities. In the U.S., the number one financial risk for millennial workers is the cost of caring for aging parents. That’s huge. If we don’t address this, we’re setting up generations of women for burnout and financial instability. My mission is to help women build practical plans—legal, financial, and emotional—so that when life throws curveballs, they can still thrive as leaders.

Q: What role does collaboration play in your work?
Mim: No single group has all the answers. Our strength lies in collaboration—women supporting women, and men as allies. At Global Women for Wellbeing, we’ve worked with organizations worldwide, from UN Women to grassroots communities, because we believe solutions are stronger when built together. Women entrepreneurs especially must let go of the idea of competition. There’s room for all of us—just like there are a million types of jeans, there are many ways to build businesses. If we support each other, we can all rise.

Q: What is the bigger vision that drives you?
Mim: I want the six-year-old girl of today—no matter where she is in the world—to have a better chance at fulfilling her potential without facing the same barriers we’ve faced. Whether it’s caregiving, financial inequity, or lack of leadership opportunities, I want us to create a world where women can thrive authentically as leaders. At our best, women bring strength, love, and resilience that uplift everyone—men, women, children, and communities alike.

“As women, we must learn to support each other better. Our financial strength, health, and networks are not just about us—they are about creating a future where our daughters and granddaughters can thrive. Together, all boats can rise.” – Mim Senft
