After spending 35 years building and leading a women-run marketing company, Marci Brand reached a milestone many entrepreneurs dream of — she successfully sold her business. Today, in her next chapter, Marci is giving back by mentoring and guiding women business owners with the wisdom earned from decades of real-world experience. Q: Marci, can you tell us about what you’re currently doing after selling your company?
After owning my marketing company for 35 years, I sold it in March and am now quasi-retired. I’ve started a marketing, consulting, and coaching business where I use everything I’ve learned over the years to help women business owners. My previous company was entirely women-run, and I’m continuing that mission by coaching and consulting women — reviewing their marketing plans, offering business insight, and helping them move forward with confidence.
Q: Many women in our community struggle with getting clients. What advice would you give them?
The biggest thing right now is networking — whether that’s online or in person. Ideally, face-to-face interactions help build trust much faster. Networking isn’t a one-and-done activity; it takes time and consistency. You can’t attend one event and expect immediate results. Trust builds over time, and while ads and emails are helpful, personal connection and follow-up make a huge difference.
Q: Do you have any resources or offerings you’d like to share with our readers?
I currently have several free downloads on my website focused on the things I wish I had known when I started my business. I also write a Substack newsletter called Shift Happens, where I share insights and reflections — it’s another free space for learning and growth.
Q: What are your thoughts on gender equality in the workplace?
I owned a business for 35 years that only employed women, and my work has always been about helping women get a leg up. The truth is, there isn’t true equality yet. That’s why mentoring women and helping them grow has always been central to what I do.
