Liz Upchurch: Empowering Women to Step into Leadership with Confidence

Liz Upchurch

Liz Upchurch is a passionate leadership coach and founder of Undeniable Potential Coaching, dedicated to helping women step into leadership roles with clarity and confidence. With a background in both nonprofit and corporate spaces, Liz recognized the need for women to have support, tools, and the courage to take on leadership opportunities that often feel just out of reach. Humans of Fuzia is proud to feature Liz’s story to inspire our 5 million–strong global community that believes in He for She and She for She—because when women rise, we all rise.

Q: What inspired you to start your own business after working in the corporate sector?
Liz: I wanted to be in control of my time and decisions, and I felt called to create something that didn’t exist in the companies I worked for. My mission was clear—I wanted to impact women directly, helping them step into leadership roles with confidence. Within a company, you don’t always get to choose who you work with. Running my own business allows me to focus on women and redefine leadership models in ways that feel authentic and empowering.

Q: Who do you typically work with, and what stage are they at in their leadership journey?
Liz: I primarily work with women who are ready for their first step into leadership. They may be becoming managers for the first time or wondering if they’re “leadership material.” Many of my clients are in professional and nonprofit spaces. They’re ready to grow but often need clarity, support, and the tools to truly believe in themselves.

Q: What benefits do clients usually experience when they work with you?
Liz: Clarity is often the biggest shift—clarity about who they are, what they want, and how to quiet that inner voice of self-doubt. From there, they gain confidence, tools to navigate challenges, and the courage to step onto bigger stages, whether in their careers or personal lives.

Q: You mentioned imposter syndrome. How has that shown up in your own journey, and what helped you overcome it?
Liz: I’ve experienced imposter syndrome many times, especially when working in spaces where I didn’t have the same background or degrees as others. What helped was realizing that I was hired for what I uniquely bring to the table. As a business owner, I’ve faced similar doubts, particularly in areas like marketing and running a business. But I’ve learned that you don’t have to do it all alone—there are always resources, collaborators, and communities to lean on.

Q: Looking back, is there anything you would have done differently when starting out?
Liz: I wish I had invested in marketing training before I launched. I knew coaching and leadership development inside out, but marketing was new territory. Understanding that earlier would have helped me hit the ground running. Still, the learning process and the people I’ve met along the way have been invaluable.

Q: What challenges do you see for women entering leadership or entrepreneurship today?
Liz: Visibility is a big one—getting comfortable sharing who you are and what you do. For me, it took encouragement from loved ones to really own my story and expertise. Another challenge is economic uncertainty. Many people hesitate to invest in coaching or development because of the unknowns, and that can make it difficult.

Q: What does success mean to you?
Liz: Success is helping hundreds of women every year feel confident in their own skin and ready to take on leadership roles. I want to see more women break past that “broken rung” where too many get stuck early in their careers. Personally, success also means looking back on my career and knowing I’ve contributed something meaningful to humanity.

Q: What keeps you motivated during the challenging phases of entrepreneurship?
Liz: Community. I’ve built strong relationships with fellow solopreneurs, and we support each other through ups and downs. Having that network of people to share, encourage, and lean on makes all the difference. You don’t have to be solo, even if you’re a solopreneur.

“Entrepreneurship is both scary and liberating—but with clarity, community, and courage, women can step into leadership and transform not only their own lives but the world around them.” – Liz Upchurch
