Leadership, Entrepreneurship & Community Healing: How Tanisha Ray Is Transforming Addiction Recovery Through Compassion, Accessibility, and Resilience | Humans of Fuzia

Tanisha Ray

Behind every successful business is a deeply personal reason for why it exists. For Tanisha Ray, that reason has always been creating spaces where people affected by addiction can seek help without fear, shame, or judgment.

Featured on Humans of Fuzia, a global thought-leadership platform where founders, entrepreneurs, coaches, innovators, executives, women leaders, and changemakers share ideas that advance leadership, entrepreneurship, coaching, business growth, and socially conscious innovation, Ray is redefining addiction recovery by combining clinical expertise with accessibility, community, and compassion.

As the founder of Ease and Wellness Counseling Services, Tanisha supports individuals living with addiction as well as the families, partners, and children whose lives are often deeply impacted by it. Drawing from years of experience working in schools, correctional facilities, and treatment centers, she witnessed firsthand how addiction affects every stage of life—and how stigma often prevents people from seeking the support they need. That realization inspired her to build a practice centered on empathy, evidence-based care, and holistic healing.

Accessibility became one of the guiding principles behind her business.

While completing her Master of Social Work as a single parent, Tanisha understood how difficult it can be for people balancing work, caregiving, and personal responsibilities to access mental health support. By offering telehealth counseling, she created services that fit into everyday life, allowing clients to receive care during lunch breaks, while managing family responsibilities, or from the comfort of their own homes.

Her entrepreneurial journey has evolved thoughtfully over time.

After initially balancing treatment program development with client work—including designing culturally responsive and LGBTQIA+ affirming treatment programs for nonprofit organizations—Tanisha intentionally shifted her focus toward building a private counseling practice serving individuals, couples, and families. She is also expanding her impact through collaborations with organizations such as Love Life Therapy Center, continuing her mission of promoting trauma-informed, equitable, and relationship-centered care.

Beyond her counseling practice, Tanisha’s commitment to community extends into multiple areas of service. She actively contributes to organizations including the NAACP and the Arizona Association of Addiction Professionals while also expressing her passion for family wellness through children’s literature. As the author and illustrator of the Danny Dutterhoff series, she gently introduces young readers to complex social issues, helping families build empathy and resilience from an early age.

When reflecting on the challenges of entrepreneurship, Tanisha points inward rather than outward.

She openly acknowledges that imposter syndrome has been one of her greatest barriers to growth. Rather than allowing fear to define her path, she has intentionally cultivated a growth mindset—embracing continuous learning, seeking supportive communities, recognizing systemic barriers, and remaining committed to finding creative solutions that allow both herself and the people she serves to thrive.

For Tanisha, honest entrepreneurship begins with clarity of purpose.

She believes entrepreneurs should clearly communicate why they do their work, how they deliver their services, and provide people with the information needed to make informed decisions. Guided by ethical practice, transparency, and the principle of “do no harm,” she views trust as the foundation of meaningful service, particularly when working with vulnerable and historically underserved communities.
