Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and the AI Future of Work: Inside Michael Shost’s Systems-Driven Journey

Michael Shost

Humans of Fuzia – Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Coaching, Women Empowerment & Growth Systems

What if every decade of your career produced a market-defining company—not by chance, but by design?

For Michael Shost, a software engineer turned serial entrepreneur, that’s not a tagline. It’s a pattern. Over 30 years, he has built and exited multiple ventures by combining systems thinking, market timing, and relentless curiosity—from real-time auction platforms to AI-driven trading engines, and now an agentic AI-driven PMO poised to reshape enterprise delivery.

At Humans of Fuzia (HOF)—a global thought-leadership platform at the intersection of leadership, entrepreneurship, coaching, women empowerment, and socially conscious business—conversations like this are core to our mission. We understand how coaches, founders, and small business entrepreneurs actually operate, grow, and scale. Michael’s journey offers a blueprint for building resilient, scalable, and impact-driven businesses in 2026 and beyond.

From Auctions to AI: Building Businesses Through Systems, Not Guesswork

Michael’s story began not with a pitch deck, but with engineering discipline.

“In becoming a software engineer, I learned about system thinking… it really taught me to keep my eye open for opportunities.”

In 2009–2010, he helped major auction houses solve a now-familiar challenge: hybrid participation. The problem wasn’t just streaming; it was emotion.

“Bidding especially, is very emotional. So… the real time data feed… coupled with microphones and cameras in each of the auction rings really… got people engaged.”

That insight—engineering emotional engagement into systems—led to a funded venture, Auction Empire, which he built and exited as COO once ROI was realized.

Later, during the pandemic, he co-founded Proxy Trove, a “purely mathematical, no touch AI, ML driven algorithmic trading model” designed to democratize wealth generation and remove barriers like market expertise or coding skills.

Even as ETFs and market shifts changed the landscape, Proxy Trove kept 5x-ing capital in finite windows, until Michael made a strategic decision: the real opportunity was to sell the technology to a private investor and redeploy his focus.

The Agentic AI-Driven PMO: Leadership Systems for 2026

Today, Michael is building an agentic AI-driven PMO model for complex enterprise delivery, mentored by portfolio management legend Bill Dow.

His philosophy aligns with the core leadership challenges of 2026:

  • Managing growth complexity
  • Clarifying messaging and value
  • Scaling teams and systems sustainably
  • Maintaining accountability in hybrid, AI-augmented environments

For Michael, the differentiator isn’t just technology—it’s how leaders synthesize information:

“Being able to apply information from multiple disparate sources and synthesize that information effectively in a way that supports the achievement of your goals…”

This is exactly where coaches, consultants, and entrepreneurs must now compete: systems thinking, not just hustle.

Women in Leadership & the Power of Multiple Lenses

Michael is clear on why women in leadership are not a “nice to have,” but a strategic advantage:

“Having women in leadership roles… has broadened my perspective… allowed me to consider things looking through a different lens than I’m used to looking through.”

In a world of AI, volatility, and rapid market shifts, this multiplicity of lenses is not just inclusion—it’s risk management and innovation strategy.

Redefining Success: Freedom, Optionality, and Agility

Michael doesn’t separate personal and professional success:

“My work is me and I am my work… Success for me has to do with making sure that my basic needs are met, that I’m able to focus on what I’m interested in in a meaningful way…”

His definition of success is deeply systems-aligned: meet your baseline needs, then deliberately design optionality—room to write, build companies, pursue astrophysics, or serve private and government clients.

For founders, coaches, and small business leaders, this is a powerful reframing: success is structural, not accidental.

Execution Tip

Tomorrow, map your opportunity system like Michael does:

  1. List three basic needs that must be secured (financial, time, energy).
  2. List three opportunities you’re most excited about (offers, products, partnerships).
  3. For each opportunity, write one sentence:
    • “What market shift or data point makes this timely right now?”

Then choose one opportunity where timing + capability + market need clearly align—and commit the next 90 days of focused action there. Systems beat scattered effort.
