Building a successful venture requires more than just a great idea — it demands clarity, strategy, and the ability to connect with the right people. Jason Kraus is an entrepreneur, venture capital advisor, and founder of Prepare4VC, where he helps founders navigate fundraising, business strategy, and growth pathways. Through his work, he supports startups in overcoming challenges, refining their vision, and accelerating their journey toward impact.
Humans of Fuzia is featuring Jason’s journey to inspire entrepreneurs and innovators who are building meaningful ventures and shaping the future of business.
Can you tell us about your background and what inspired your entrepreneurial journey?
My entrepreneurial journey began during college at Colgate University in upstate New York. Winters were extremely cold, and my friends and I wanted an easier way to know what was happening around campus before heading out. That led us to build an application called “Night Owl” to help students discover events and activities.
At the time, I didn’t know much about entrepreneurship, but building that product taught me valuable lessons about branding, marketing, and product development. Although it was mainly a learning experience, it sparked my interest in startups and innovation.
Later, I pursued graduate studies at Babson College, which is well known for entrepreneurship. While there, I interned with Boston Harbor Angels, where I observed founders pitching their ventures to investors. That experience introduced me to the venture capital ecosystem and deepened my interest in helping entrepreneurs build and grow their businesses.
Over time, I worked in venture capital, launched financial technology ventures, and eventually founded Prepare4VC to help founders tell their stories effectively and connect with the right opportunities.
What inspired you to create Prepare4VC and what problem does it solve?
Through my experience as both an entrepreneur and investor, I saw many talented founders struggling with specific challenges — sometimes they couldn’t clearly communicate their vision, and other times they struggled to connect with the right investors or partners.
Prepare4VC was created to help founders overcome these barriers. We provide guidance, mentorship, and strategic support so entrepreneurs can move forward with clarity and confidence. Our goal is to help them build meaningful solutions by connecting them with the right people and resources.
Can you tell us about your business model and services?
Prepare4VC operates through multiple support systems designed to help founders at different stages.
We start with a diagnostic platform called Compass, which evaluates where founders are in their journey and helps them identify their next steps. It analyzes business milestones, goals, and personal ambitions to recommend strategic pathways and resources.
We also offer one-on-one support, including strategy sessions, fundraising guidance, partnership development, and deeper consulting engagements. In addition, we run a cohort-based accelerator program called the Breakthrough Program, where startups participate in a structured 10-week experience with mentorship, strategic guidance, and opportunities to connect with investors and partners.
Entrepreneurship can be demanding. How do you balance your professional and personal life?
Becoming a father has been a transformative experience for me. It’s my first time navigating both entrepreneurship and parenthood together, and it has changed my perspective in many ways.
Today’s work culture is more understanding and human-centered, especially with remote work and virtual meetings. People appreciate authenticity and recognize that entrepreneurs have personal lives as well. I believe sharing these moments actually strengthens relationships and creates more meaningful connections.
What are your thoughts on the growing role of AI in business?
AI is here to stay, and eventually it will become a standard part of every business, much like cloud technology today. While some companies will specialize in building AI platforms, most businesses will simply integrate AI into their operations.
At Prepare4VC, we use AI to analyze data, synthesize information, and provide actionable insights for founders. We’ve also developed AI-driven tools to help entrepreneurs understand their position and create a roadmap for growth. The key is to leverage AI to enhance decision-making and improve outcomes for the communities we serve.
What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs?
Many entrepreneurs wait too long trying to perfect their product before sharing it with others. It’s important to seek feedback early and often. You may discover that what you’ve already built solves real problems, or you may gain insights that help you improve your direction.
Don’t hesitate to share your story and communicate what you’re building — feedback and engagement are essential for growth.
“Don’t wait for perfection — share your ideas early, seek feedback, and let your community help shape your journey.”
