Heather Constantine’s journey is one of resilience, reinvention, and impact. After spending 15 years as a corporate marketer building global brands, an unexpected layoff became the turning point that inspired her to redirect her expertise. What began as a simple act of giving back—helping laid-off professionals rebrand themselves on LinkedIn—evolved into a thriving career coaching practice. Today, Heather helps people worldwide position themselves for career pivots, salary growth, and fulfillment. Humans of Fuzia is proud to feature her story to inspire our 5 million community members, reminding us of the importance of supporting one another—She for She, He for She—in building empowered, purpose-driven lives.
Q: Can you tell us a bit about your journey and how you became a career coach?
Heather: I spent about 15 years as a marketer, helping build brands from the ground up for both large organizations and small companies. My work was all about visibility, positioning, and creating a strong digital footprint. Then, like many people, I experienced a layoff. During that time, I wanted to give back. I made a LinkedIn post offering to help others who had been laid off, and it went viral—350 people reached out. I branded them so they could pivot into new roles, and within 30 days, nearly all of them had landed jobs, often with significant salary increases. That was when I realized I could take my marketing expertise and apply it to people’s careers. Now, I help individuals market themselves and take control of their professional journeys.
Q: What is unique about your approach compared to traditional career coaching?
Heather: Most people are taught to just update their resume and send out applications, but that doesn’t work anymore. My approach is different because I focus on positioning—how you market yourself, how you tell your story, and how you align your skills with your aspirations. I help people reverse-engineer the process by first identifying their vision for their careers and then building a strategy to reach it. It’s not just job searching—it’s about creating reinvention and alignment with who they want to become.
Q: Many professionals feel stuck in their careers. How do you help them break free from that?
Heather: A lot of people keep doing the same work they were doing five or ten years ago, even though their values, passions, and goals have shifted. That creates a disconnect. I help them uncover the talents they haven’t been using and position those skills for new opportunities. When people realize they can take control of the direction their career moves, they stop feeling stuck and start feeling empowered.
Q: What advice would you give to job seekers who want to pivot into new roles?
Heather: Don’t start with your resume—start with yourself. Ask questions like: What do I want? What energizes me? What are my values? Once you’re clear on that, position yourself accordingly. Use your LinkedIn profile to tell your story, highlight outcomes you’ve achieved, and make it easy for recruiters to see your value. Positioning shapes perception, and when you communicate your unique strengths, opportunities start coming to you.
Q: Salary negotiations can be challenging. What’s your take on that?
Heather: I’ve found that when you position yourself effectively, salary tends to follow. I’ve seen clients go from being stuck at a certain pay level for years to suddenly landing offers with significant increases. If you’re being undervalued, it’s usually not about the industry—it’s about how you’re presenting yourself. When you communicate your outcomes and the value you bring, employers see you differently, and the pay reflects that.
Q: You mentioned working primarily as a solopreneur. What has that experience been like?
Heather: I love it because the relationships I build with my clients are deeply personal. People trust me, and I want to keep that connection at the core of my work. What brings me the most joy isn’t just helping women land new jobs—it’s seeing their transformation. They realize they’re no longer at the mercy of their career, but instead, they can take control of it. That empowerment is life-changing.
Q: What advice would you give to other entrepreneurs trying to build visibility?
Heather: Positioning applies to business owners too. You need to know exactly who you’re speaking to, what their pain points are, and how you solve them. Being specific is far more effective than trying to appeal to everyone. For me, LinkedIn has been the best platform, but it depends on your audience. Offering value first—whether through collaborations, thought leadership, or sharing expertise—creates trust and opens doors.
Q: What’s the bigger mission that drives your work?
Heather: My mission is to help as many people as possible elevate their careers so that their work becomes the fullest expression of themselves. Careers should give back as much as we put into them. I’ve been fortunate to guide hundreds of women in reinventing their careers, and I’m excited to keep doing more of that in the future.
“Our careers shouldn’t control us—we should control the direction they move. When you know your worth and position yourself authentically, opportunities will always follow.”
