Gregg Hannah on Leadership, Entrepreneurship, Coaching, Women Empowerment, Growth Systems and Social Impact

Gregg Hannah

What if the biggest mistake leaders make isn’t failing to lead—but trying to do everything themselves?

For Gregg Hannah, leadership has never been about having the loudest voice or giving the most orders. After nearly 43 years as a Canadian naval officer, including command roles, Hannah says he gave only “five absolute direct orders,” even in combat. His philosophy was fundamentally different: “Leadership is about developing people.”

Today, as a leadership speaker, certified master coach, and founder of Transformational Learning Solutions, Hannah applies that same people-first philosophy to entrepreneurship, coaching, behavioral change, and business growth.

Leadership Development Begins With People

Hannah’s career illustrates a critical lesson for modern leaders: growth requires evolving from doing the work to developing the people and systems that make the work scalable.

For small business owners, that transition can be particularly difficult. As a business grows, founders must delegate, build leadership capacity, and recognize which responsibilities require their expertise—and which should be handed to others.

The alternative is burnout. As Hannah explains, staying buried in day-to-day work can prevent a business from expanding, diversifying, and becoming more profitable.

Entrepreneurship, Marketing and the Client Acquisition Challenge

Hannah has witnessed marketing evolve from business cards and face-to-face networking to LinkedIn and Instagram. Yet he believes the fundamental principle remains unchanged: “How do I find and connect and resonate with the people that could use what I can offer?”

That question remains central to entrepreneurship in 2026, when coaches and small businesses face crowded markets, messaging challenges, inconsistent client acquisition, and limited time.

Hannah’s own experience makes the challenge personal. As a former instructor and university professor, he was accustomed to having students arrive in his classroom. Entrepreneurship changed that completely: “I’d walk into the room and there’d be nobody sitting in the seats.”

His solution is not simply generating more leads. It is improving what happens after the lead arrives—strengthening communication and conversion so more prospects become viable clients.

Socially Conscious Leadership in a Complex World

For Hannah, technology is an enabler—not the heart of leadership. His advice to the next generation is remarkably human: focus on people, act with integrity, and genuinely help clients.

“If your clients feel like you have their back,” he says, “and you’re helping them, and you’re honest about it, that’s the most important thing.”

Execution Tip

Audit your business this week and identify one responsibility you should no longer be doing yourself. Delegate it, systemize it, or hire support—and use the recovered time for strategy, leadership, and growth.
