Empowering Women to Leap into Alignment: The Journey of Janette Wong

Janette Wong

Janette Wong is a transformational life coach, Reiki practitioner, and founder of Empowering Leap. She specialises in supporting high-achieving women who feel overwhelmed or disconnected, helping them realign with clarity, purpose, and self-trust. Drawing from her personal journey through burnout and anxiety, Janette rebuilt her life and business on her own terms — combining mindset coaching, energy work, and soul-led strategy. Her work empowers women to thrive in a way that honours both their goals and their humanity.

What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your entrepreneur journey/venture/initiative.
Growing up, I was extremely shy and really afraid of being seen. At school, I was known as “the girl behind the hair” because I used to hide at least half of my face behind my hair — I was scared that if people actually saw me, they’d judge me. I didn’t feel confident enough to speak up, and I hated simple things like taking public transport or doing grocery shopping alone because I was terrified of looking like a “loner.” I used to be someone who constantly chased validation, feeling like if someone didn’t want to spend time with me, it meant I wasn’t lovable or interesting enough.

I also saw myself as the “time-slot filler” — the person you’d call when you were bored, but easily replaceable when someone better came along. That fear of being forgettable shaped how I showed up in friendships, relationships, and eventually even in my career and business. It’s taken years of healing, self-trust, and learning how to meet my own needs to realise that I never had to prove my worth in the first place. Today, my work is rooted in helping other women feel seen, safe, and solid within themselves — because I know how painful it is when you don’t.

Every industry that is now a large-scale, top-notch business once started as a small idea in the minds of entrepreneurs. What was that idea or motivation that made you start your business/initiative? What motivated you within to say YES, go for it!?
For a long time, I believed I was authentic because I valued honesty — but what I didn’t realise was how often I was lying to myself. I denied my needs, downplayed my desires, and ignored what wasn’t working — because I thought being strong meant pushing through.
The moment I got radically honest with myself, everything shifted. That deep inner clarity gave me the courage to create something I wish I had: a space where women can tell the truth about how they really feel, what they really want, and who they really are — without shame, guilt, and without having to worry about judgement by others.
That’s what motivated me to say yes — to build a business rooted in honesty, healing, and helping other women give themselves full permission to be and to love who they truly are.

Tell us something about your initiative or current role. What is it about, and what impact are you trying to make?
Empowering Leap began as a vision to help women leap into their best future — and that’s still the mission behind everything I do. It’s about creating a life that feels good from the inside out, without the constant pressure to do more, be more, earn more, or prove more.

I help high-achieving women give themselves permission to thrive in a way that feels aligned, not forced — by reconnecting with themselves, getting clear on what they truly want, and making empowered decisions.

The impact I want to make is simple: I want women to stop merely surviving their own success and start celebrating the lives they’ve built — full of joy, fun, and freedom.

Your journey and your vision are very inspiring, but are there any achievements or accomplishments you would like to mention?
One of my proudest accomplishments isn’t just starting a business — it’s doing it my way, without compromising my values. From launching my first 1:1 coaching offer to creating community-led events and wellness circles, each step has been about creating meaningful spaces for women to feel seen, supported, and safe.

I’ve been invited to speak at wellness panels, hosted transformational workshops, and recently launched a 5-day clarity challenge that helped women around the world reset and reconnect with themselves. But honestly, the greatest achievement has been hearing from women who say, “I finally feel like myself again.” That’s what it’s all about.

Would you like to share with our young budding women entrepreneurs the change you would like to see in the world if given an opportunity?
If I could create one change in the world, it would be this:
That women no longer feel like they have to earn their worth by over-working, over-giving, or being “perfect”.

I would love for all of the young budding women entrepreneurs to understand that success should not cost women their health, joy, or sense of self. I would love to see a world where women feel safe enough to slow down, trust themselves, and build lives that are aligned — not just impressive.

And I want young entrepreneurs to know this early: you don’t have to become someone else to succeed. Who you are is not in the way — it’s THE way.

Women are a growing force in the workplaces worldwide, standing shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. What are your thoughts about women leadership today?
Women leadership today is evolving — and it’s powerful in its own way. The most powerful female leaders I know bring others with them. They evolve with their communities, and they create space for those around them to rise too. I believe this is where the power of feminine energy meets masculine energy — not male vs. female, but the balance of holding and action, intuition and structure. Women will always lead differently than men, and that’s not just OK — it’s essential.

When diverse leaders stand side by side and recognise how they complement one another, that’s when real challenge, change, and growth happen. Because I think that true leadership isn’t about being the loudest voice — it’s about being the one who listens, holds, and lifts.

What would you want to say to our young leaders/audience reading this?
You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. And you don’t need to prove yourself to be worthy of taking up space.

The most powerful thing you can do is get honest with yourself — about what you want, what you believe, and what no longer fits. Build from that place. Not from pressure, not from fear, and definitely not from comparison.

Your path is allowed to look different. Your leadership is allowed to be quiet, bold, messy, soft, strategic — whatever’s true for you.
Just don’t forget: You are already enough. Start there.
