Empowering Hidden Talent: David Leaser on Purpose-Driven Innovation and Career Transformation

David Leaser

David Leaser is Vice President at MyInnerGenius and a strategist in workforce transformation, digital credentials, and AI-driven career development. He created IBM’s Digital Badge program and the New Collar Certificate Program, and now collaborates with global organizations and government agencies to uncover hidden talent and help people find meaningful careers. He serves on credentialing boards, advises the U.S. Department of Labor, and speaks at major workforce and education events around the world.

Could you describe your initiative/startup’s purpose and vision and how it benefits its target audience?
MyInnerGenius is a career navigation platform that helps people—especially those in underserved communities—discover the careers they’re wired to love and succeed in. Our mission is to reveal people’s hidden potential using neuroscience-based technology, so they can break free from traditional barriers like degrees, resumes, and job titles. For workforce boards, schools, and employers, it shortens the path to employment and connects talent with opportunity. We don’t just help people find jobs—we help them find better lives.

As far as entrepreneurship is concerned, your journey is quite inspiring. What are some of your most significant accomplishments and how did you achieve them?
One of my proudest accomplishments is creating IBM’s Digital Badge program—a global movement that’s helped millions of learners gain recognition for their skills. I am also most proud of MyInnerGenius, where we make career navigation accessible and equitable, match people to roles they’ll love and find meaningful. These successes came from listening deeply to market needs, staying ahead of trends and building coalitions—inside organizations and across entire industries—to drive innovation that scales.

Being an entrepreneur, what kind of response have you received from your users/consumers? (You can also talk about your recognitions/awards here)
The response has been extraordinary. People tell us MyInnerGenius changes lives—and that’s not a slogan, it’s a fact. One story that stands out is Domani, a young man who transformed his life through our platform. That story won the Learning Impact Gold Award, one of the honors I’m most proud of because it represents the heart of our mission. I’ve also received innovation awards for both IBM’s Digital Badge program and MyInnerGenius, but it’s the personal stories of transformation that drive me.

In what ways has your life changed since you began your entrepreneurial journey?
My entrepreneurial path has been a calling to help people find better lives through the intersection of technology and purpose. At IBM, I built platforms to recognize skills. Now, at MyInnerGenius, I use that same drive to empower people—especially those overlooked by traditional systems—to discover their true potential. My life’s mission is to remove barriers and open doors. That’s what life is about for me: using my skills to help others find their path.
