Q: Tell us about yourself and your professional journey.

David Berkowitz: I’m a longtime marketer, writer, community builder, and a dad based in New York City, where I’ve lived for more than 25 years. I’ve always worn multiple hats — from being an avid writer and published author to founding communities and serving as a chief community officer.

My career began with writing. I initially thought I would become a school teacher and studied psychology in college. But as the internet was emerging, I saw an opportunity to combine my love for writing with new digital possibilities. I started at a startup that shut down within months, which led to my first layoff early in my career.

Later, I joined a research firm as an editor and gradually moved into public relations and communications. That transition led me into corporate marketing and eventually leadership roles. Throughout my journey, writing has always remained central — helping me bring ideas to life and connect with audiences.

Q: You’ve built strong marketing communities. Can you tell us about them?

David Berkowitz: I founded Serial Marketers about eight years ago and later launched AI Marketers Guild to focus on the growing role of AI in marketing. Both communities bring together professionals who want to exchange ideas, collaborate, and support each other.

Our members come from around the world, and we regularly host virtual sessions with guest speakers and learning programs. The idea behind these communities is simple — marketers need marketers too. Even experienced professionals need support across different areas like branding, SEO, or strategy.

What excites me most is seeing people share knowledge and learn how to use AI in practical ways rather than fearing it.

Q: How do people usually discover your work or connect with you?

David Berkowitz: I share much of my work through my consulting platform, where I publish AI resources, tools, and ideas for professionals and job seekers. I’m constantly experimenting with new concepts, building interactive experiences, and exploring what technology can do.

I’m also very active on LinkedIn, which is where most people connect with me and follow my work.

Q: What has been the most challenging part of running your own business?

David Berkowitz: The biggest challenge is that when you run your own business, you need to handle everything — sales, marketing, operations, finance, and client service. Many people are skilled in one area but struggle with others.

There isn’t really a single place where entrepreneurs learn how to manage every aspect of a business. You also discover that there are parts of the work you enjoy and others you don’t. Early on, limited resources make it difficult to outsource tasks, so you have to learn and adapt quickly. It’s a demanding but valuable experience.

Q: How do you see AI shaping the future of work and business?

David Berkowitz: AI is opening doors for innovation, especially for people who aren’t highly technical. It allows us to experiment, build solutions, and bring ideas to life at a low cost.

I’m personally excited about using AI to create tools and test ideas that I wouldn’t have been able to pursue before. It helps professionals work more efficiently and unlock their potential rather than replacing human capabilities.

Q: What are your goals and focus areas moving forward?

David Berkowitz: I’m focused on expanding my projects and continuing to experiment with AI-driven solutions. Technology is evolving rapidly, and it’s exciting to explore new ways to create meaningful work, test ideas, and develop tools that solve real problems.

For me, the future is about innovation, learning, and building solutions that make work more effective and creative.

“Technology gives us new possibilities every day — the key is to stay curious, keep learning, and turn ideas into reality.”
