What sparked your journey as a speaker and coach? Was there a defining moment that led you here?
I’ve always believed in people and their incredible, often untapped, potential. My career began as a U.S. swimming coach, then evolved into a corporate VP role where I discovered the power of team-building. The turning point came when I saw how much impact I could make through speaking. At the peak of my corporate success, I said to my wife, “Let’s quit.” That was when I decided to dedicate my life to becoming a professional speaker. I’ve now spoken at over 2,000 events and reached more than a million people globally, all in pursuit of helping others believe more in themselves and take real steps toward their breakthroughs.

What is the core purpose behind your work? How do you aim to make a difference?
My purpose is to help people realize that they are already leaders. Every decision we make—how we show up, handle challenges, and impact those around us—is an act of leadership. I coach people to become what I call “breakthrough leaders” by focusing on three controllables: shaping your future, energizing and engaging your team (starting with yourself), and building people and relationships. These principles help people create real momentum and shift from living reactively to intentionally.

Can you elaborate on these three ‘controllables’ and how they transform lives?
Absolutely.

  1. Shape your future by focusing on what you want instead of what you fear. Stop using only memory—use vision to see possibility and growth.
  2. Energize and engage—you can choose your energy every day. Move your body, start your mornings with gratitude, and stay aligned with your purpose. That’s how you stay unstoppable.
  3. Build people and relationships by being fully present. When you’re truly there with someone—mind, body, and heart—you make them feel important. That’s how you build trust and influence.

Was there a personal moment that shaped how you view presence and connection?
Yes, one of the most transformative moments came from my daughters. One night, when I was about to check my phone instead of being with them, they asked, “Daddy, do you love your phone more than you love us?” That hit me hard. I realized I wasn’t truly present. From that day on, I never missed a bedtime when I was home. That moment taught me the true power of presence—it’s the most valuable gift we can give.

What accomplishment are you most proud of?
It’s not a trophy or an award—it’s the fact that people walk away from my events feeling more confident and believing in themselves. They may not remember my name, but they remember the way they felt. That, to me, is everything. It’s about moving from ego to “we go.” It’s about inspiring someone to say, “Maybe I can.”

What advice would you give to future women leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs?
Be fully present. It builds trust and relationships, which are at the heart of every business. Focus on what you can control—your choices, your energy, your perspective. And above all, embrace humility. Being humble doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself—it means thinking of yourself less. Humble leaders are lifelong learners. They give credit, take responsibility, and build strong, meaningful connections. That’s the kind of leadership that leaves a legacy.

“Presence is the greatest gift we can give—when people feel important, they rise to their potential.”
