Alex Velinov is a problem-solver at heart, someone who thrives on challenges and sees entrepreneurship as a memorable journey rather than just an end goal. As one of the earliest members of Tag Digital, Alex helped grow the company from a small three-member team to a global leader in event marketing, now acquired by one of the world’s largest event organizers. His story is about perseverance, culture-building, and staying authentic — values that resonate deeply with the Humans of Fuzia community of 5M+ women and allies around the world.
Q: What inspired your entrepreneurial journey?
Alex: Challenges. I’ve always been a natural problem solver, and being part of a small, growing company was exciting. We were building new things from scratch, whether services, tools, or products — solutions that could help customers while making our work more meaningful. For me, the journey itself matters more than the destination. It’s about creating something memorable and embracing that entrepreneurial mindset.
Q: You joined Tag Digital as one of the first employees. What was it like in the early days?
Alex: In the beginning, we were just three people doing everything — sales, delivery, client success, IT, communication. Startups demand that you wear multiple hats and make quick decisions. That pressure was real, especially knowing salaries had to be paid at the end of the month. But it also gave us a chance to build culture, processes, and systems from the ground up. Over time, we realized culture is everything — it reflects the values of the founders and early team and guides every tough decision you make.
Q: What are your thoughts on women in leadership?
Alex: I don’t divide people by gender, but I’ve been fortunate to work closely with inspiring women leaders, including my CEO, Laura. Women often bring higher emotional intelligence, empathy, and people skills that make teams stronger. In fact, research shows that groups with more women have higher collective intelligence, meaning they’re better at solving complex problems together. That’s something I’ve witnessed firsthand.
Q: What advice would you give to aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
Alex: Be authentic. That’s the best survival mechanism in both life and business. Beyond that, don’t just “follow your passion” — follow your talent. Find what you’re truly good at and build around it. That’s how you’ll create lasting success.
Q: How do you define success — personally and professionally?
Alex: I don’t separate personal and professional life. It’s all one consciousness, one brain. What matters is defining your own metric of success, and for me, it always comes back to happiness. If you can find happiness and live authentically, you’re successful.
“Be authentic. Follow your talent. Define your own happiness — that’s the real measure of success.” – Alex Velinov
