Sally Wurr

Sally Wurr is a lifelong entrepreneur.  She is the President and Founder of SW Insurance Corp, and an International Speaker and multi book Author. By utilizing her expertise in stories, she shares how to embrace change and how to face life’s struggles head on.

Sally is known as the “Storm Whisperer” because her message is about how to prepare for life’s storms.  Each person has trials and tragedies, but it is how we react to those events that help us grow and survive.

Sally embraces the knowledge that those who can, must be the ones that do.  She shares her stories so that others can find their true purpose. Simply put, she likes to teach others how to problem solve.

What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your corporate journey/venture/initiative.

I grew up in a military family.  My father was in the US Air Force. We lived in 10 different cities all over the United States.

My family consisted of my dad, my mom and one older sister. I can remember back to the 5th grade when I was given my first true leadership roles.  I was blessed to have many great mentors who saw something in me that I didn’t know myself.  Teachers have an uncanny way of redirecting those students who are not kept challenged.  They redirected me into leadership roles.

In high school I was a majorette in the marching band.  Between my 10th and 11th grade years my band director, who was one of my earliest mentors, asked me to be the Majorette Squad Captain the following school year. The captain’s role is to develop and teach the members routines for parades and football halftime shows. By itself this was a huge undertaking.  In addition, he asked me to be the school’s Solo, Featured Majorette.  This meant that I also had to design my own routines for parades and football halftime shows.  Keep in mind I had a full school schedule as well.  He said I was the best person and he knew I would be able to do both well.

I wrote my first “life’s bucket list” in high school.  I do not remember all that was on that list.  Until a year ago there were only two items from the original.  Singing lessons and speaking on large stages around the world.  Because of Zoom I am able to speak all around the world and reach many people.

I was a master haircutter and make-up artist for many years.  I eventually transitioned into being an Insurance Broker which is what my main career is now.

Once I was married my husband and I moved to 6 different cities around the USA.  We have one daughter who is an adult and off living her life.

In March 2020, my husband was diagnosed with Stage 4 Cancer.  He passed away four months later.

My current goals and interest all surround continuing to grow and maintain SW Insurance Corp and to get my next two books for 2022 published.

By the end of 2022 I will have published 4 books of my own and been in 3 compilation books.  Next year I have already signed a contract to write as a co author in 4 books.  In addition, my website www.sallywurr.com should be available soon and online and in person courses are being developed for 2023.

Tell us something about your organization. What is it about and how is it helpful for people?

I have two organizations.  My first one is SW Insurance Corp.  I work with CEO’s of companies developing employee benefit programs. We bring in Medical Dental, Vision types of products.  It helps them attain and retain employees.

My second company is simply called Sally Wurr.  It is where my Books and other articles I have written can be found. In addition, it shares what speaking topics I can be hired for. The goal for 2023 and 2024 is to develop online and in person training and retreats. We will also be developing online courses to help people figure out who they are and what they want.

The goal of Sally Wurr is to help people transform themselves and enjoy and engage in all that life has available to them. To help them resolve issues/storms that come up in life without falling into an abyss. It is too easy to allow the negativity and bad situations in life define us.  Do not do that!  “The problem is not the problem, it is your reaction to the problem, that is the problem“.

While the global pandemic of COVID-19 is associated primarily with adversities, it has also brought about a true boom in startups, with successful entrepreneurship in many countries. The pandemic has impacted all of us in one way or another. Would you like to share your experience on a personal and professional level?

As I have mentioned before, during the first six months of Covid, March 2020 to August 2020 I was dealing with my husband’s illness and death while maintaining my company. Thankfully for me Covid 19 didn’t have a lot of impact on my business.  Many of my employers increased their contributions to employee’s benefits.

On a personal level it certainly changed my trajectory.  I made a decision to go after my dream of being a speaker on large stages and writing additional books.  I want to leave a legacy and impact on the world.  It gives me great honor to mentor people and show them what makes them the strong, resilient person that they are.  We all have our own personal tools in our toolbox.  But until someone helps you see, you may be walking around in a cloud.  Not realizing all that you have to offer to yourself and the world.

What has been the response of the consumers towards your venture?

For the most part, surprise. Many didn’t realize my lifelong goal was to be a speaker and world wide mentor. People are busy doing their own thing and really don’t pay a lot of attention to what others around them are doing. Until they begin to see social proof from others.  Many knew I was writing and speaking, but until they saw press releases they simply didn’t realize I had grown.  In the book “Hold My Crown” that I co-wrote with several other women it has been in the press all around the world.  It could also be seen on a billboard in Times Square, New York City for almost two months.  In addition to my speaking and writing I have been interviewed on three TV shows and many podcasts and radio interviews.

How has your life changed because of your venture?

My connections all around the world are growing.  Which in itself was a goal.  None of us really know as much as we would like about how people’s lives are different.  Even in the USA each part of our country is different.  Much like many countries everywhere.  The more we know of each other’s cultures and strengths the better the world becomes.

Would you like to share with our young budding women entrepreneurs the change you would like to see in the world if given an opportunity?

That is a powerful statement! I would love to share with them to keep an open mind, encourage each other to investigate and be curious.  Allow yourself and those around you to change their opinions and direction in their lives should different information come their way.  Too many people around the world are set in their ways and they need to be more flexible.  As new information comes to light, change direction if you need to and allow others to do the same.
