What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your corporate journey/venture/initiative.

I have been privileged to have studied in a boarding school (Mayo, Ajmer). After which I did my undergraduation from Delhi University. Post which I completed my post graduation in MSc HR & IR and then Clinical Psychology. However, I have faced a lot of difficulties in life post my under graduation. Lack of support from parents, environmental stress, relationship issues, loss of loved ones, depression to name a few. At one point I wondered if I could survive, however I continued to pursue my dream of helping people in need after facing problems myself, which till now gives me the inspiration to keep myself going at my Clinic and this gives me immense satisfaction. Before I started launching my platform during the pandemic, I was skeptical, however I still motivated myself and launched and started my practice, on my own with very little support from anyone.

As a practicing psychologist and mental health counselor, my goal is to continue helping the community, especially those who believe that seeking treatment or help is a social stigma. No matter what the situation is, I want people to believe that they have help or just somebody to talk to without being judged. I maintain a keen interest in researching the latest developments in my field and various other research topics as well as keeping myself involved in CPD and CME.

Besides well established psychologists and psychiatrists my role model majorly is my mother, who did help me come out of a crisis state myself.

Tell us something about your initiative/business. What is it about and how is it helpful for people?

My establishment, SS Mental Health is a mental health care and wellness center, for people from all walks of life and all age groups. We conduct psychological assessments with adults for various goals, including treatment, planning, providing various evidence-based treatments grounded in multi-modal and cognitive-behavioral approaches, utilizing telehealth/virtual care methods and face to face therapy sessions. This involves case conceptualization and treatment for a range of mental health issues including depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment issues,  stress, mindful health, addiction and ADHD, OCD, and the treatment of emotional, cognitive and behavioral dysfunction. Needless to say, it is a mental health care platform aimed at removing the stigma associated with seeking help in our culture which has improved the mental health of thousands.

While the global pandemic of COVID-19 is associated primarily with adversities, it has also brought about a true boom in startups, with successful entrepreneurship in many countries. The pandemic has impacted all of us in one way or another. Would you like to share your experience on a personal and professional level?

The pandemic affected people from all walks of life, with individuals losing their loved ones, their businesses, their meaning of life, and also created a problem for parents and children. Personally, I kept myself going to help those in need at that time and I’m still doing so due to the repercussions of the pandemic. Professionally, I saw a lot of people starting to feel the need to approach for help in mental care.

What has been the response of the users/consumers towards your venture?

There has been a constant need for individuals and families to approach mental health professionals. I have seen a good response for the implementation of therapeutic practices and consistency of my clients. I have been approached by many to take workshops and give seminars and interviews for the same. I have also trained newly appointed government officials in the state of J&K for the importance of mental healthcare.

How has your life changed because of your initiative/venture?

Yes, definitely my life has changed due to my initiative. From being a hopeless person a long time back, I now have the determination in me that I have the ability to help individuals, couples and families to remain healthy both physically and psychologically. It gives me immense satisfaction at the end of each and every single day.

Do you have anyone who is the biggest support system in your life? Please let us know.
