Q: What inspired you to start your journey in clean energy and entrepreneurship?
Tim: My journey began with my dad, who was an environmentalist, journalist, and technologist. When I was just 10 years old, we were building solar thermal panels in our backyard in Albuquerque, New Mexico. From then on, I developed a passion for humanity, technology, and sustainability. These three threads have connected all my careers. In 2016, I became a solar entrepreneur, and today I consult for the solar industry, create content through The Clean Power Hour, and write to help professionals understand the clean energy landscape.

Q: What challenges did you face while establishing your brand, and how did you overcome them?
Tim: The biggest challenge for any small business owner is getting noticed. For me, content creation has been essential in elevating my brand. I believe that sharing knowledge and giving back helps build trust and awareness. In a complex field like solar and clean energy, many people don’t fully understand the technology. My platform helps educate them, while also establishing credibility. Another challenge has been building trust and converting relationships into lasting collaborations, but my approach has always been relationship-oriented—adding value in every interaction.

Q: What milestones are you most proud of?
Tim: Reaching over 1.2 million views on my YouTube channel was a big milestone. Beyond numbers, though, my mission is to accelerate the global energy transition. Every podcast episode, book, and article I produce contributes to that mission. I’m proud of my work not just in solar, but also in emerging fields like climate restoration and battery technologies. At the heart of it all is the impact I can make—helping humanity transition to clean, safe, and sustainable energy.

Q: How do you view women in leadership, especially in your industry?
Tim: Women in leadership are crucial. In the solar industry, only about 25% of leaders are women. That needs to change. I actively bring female executives onto The Clean Power Hour to highlight their stories and contributions. Women make up half of the global population, so there’s no reason they shouldn’t represent half of leadership as well. I believe we must encourage more women into clean tech and clean energy roles, just as other industries and societies have done successfully.

Q: What message would you give to aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
Tim: Don’t give up, and see yourself as an equal. Mindset is key—never let gender hold you back. Women have unique strengths, perspectives, and powers that they can leverage in leadership. Be persistent, keep learning, and seek out mentors who can guide your journey. And just as you learn from mentors, give back by mentoring others. Every challenge can be turned into a strength—it’s about how you approach it.

Q: What does success mean to you?
Tim: For me, success is knowing I’ve given my best to the missions I care about, particularly accelerating the energy transition. It’s about maximizing impact through my platforms while also maintaining balance—physically, mentally, and spiritually. Success means being present, joyful, and living life fully, because our time is limited. Challenges will come, but they are opportunities to grow, transcend, and make a difference.
