The Woman Who is Creating a Space of Wellbeing with Compassion and Attention to Tailored Needs

Lorraine Prescott

Lorraine Prescott is a Wellbeing Practitioner. The Founder of The Healing Tree and Co-Founder of CLUB CHI, wellbeing and happiness is her passion. She truly believes that everyone has a right to live a life of joy and wellness and she supports people to find solutions out of pain, from feeling unwell or from feeling stuck in life or disempowered. It is her mission to support people to find their path to joy and wellness whether one-to-one or in groups and utilise different therapies/strategies in order for them to get the results they desire.

Tell us about your life before the venture/leading up to your venture?

I have always had an interest in alternative medicine, so maybe it was inevitable I would end up becoming a Wellbeing Practitioner!  However, life before was in the corporate world and I would fit my holistic work around the role I was currently in.  I knew this wasn’t something I wanted to do forever, however I am grateful for the skills I learned.  Being a solopreneur is often a meandering path and with many trials and tribulations, however I believe if you’re passionate about something, it has a way of coming into your life. That was my journey!

Tell us something about your organization. What is it about and how is it helpful for people?

I believe there is no one-size-fits-all approach when it comes to our health. Some people prefer hands-on therapies, whilst others prefer a more energy therapy approach.  Some want to talk and others prefer to work with movement and/or sound.  This is where The Healing Tree and CLUB CHI come in!

We all need different approaches at different times, depending on the issue we’re wishing to work upon and the result we’re wanting to achieve.  My approach is flexible and tailored to the needs of my client.  We embark on their wellbeing journey together to create the life they’re seeking – one filled with happiness, health and wellness.

What has been the response of the consumers towards your venture?

Many clients at The Healing Tree remark on my ‘magic hands!’ This is always lovely to hear as it shows I’m making that positive difference to my clients.  My approach in the clinic is never to make clients feel rushed and as though they have to climb onto the couch upon entering the room.  I am compassionate in my approach to working with clients and a big part of supporting them on their wellbeing journey is to listen and find out what’s going on for them at the time of their appointment.

Over the years, my practice has grown to include many therapies, as well as working with animals too. Animals are very sensitive to our energies, so to be able to work with both the animal companion and their guardian is obviously the ideal.

I have worked with holistic therapies within the NHS; a drug & alcohol counseling service as well as a law firm as part of their wellbeing drive with monthly access to therapies.

CLUB CHI grew from a desire to offer an alternative way of supporting your health – with movement therapy. This is a joint venture with my husband, Ian, and again, we come from a place of supporting our attendees to create that positive change with regard to their health and wellness. We have included sound therapy to our practice, as well as workshops.

Throughout the pandemic, we delivered online Tai Chi Qigong sessions – including free sessions to support those in need at times when they were unable to work. We also delivered free pop-up ‘Secret Shibashi’ sessions, delivering alfresco Qigong free of charge during the pandemic, as well as Virtual Vitality Days, where we delivered a free/paid online day of interactive sessions, such as Qigong, meditation, hand or facial reflexology etc

Testimonials for both The Healing Tree and CLUB CHI are often the best proof of what I offer and how it is received and there are many which can be viewed at The Healing Tree (www.healingtreetherapy.net) and CLUB CHI (www.club-chi.co.uk).

What’s a leadership lesson that you’ve learnt that’s unique to being a female leader?

To follow your passion and work with compassion. When we love what we do – and would choose to do it even if we didn’t have to – that’s a sign we’re working within a role which is truly aligned to who we are.

Give a motivational message for the audience/women who are reading this.

Don’t give up on your dreams!  The path may seem like a steep climb at times, but taking it one step at a time will see you reach the top. Just remember to enjoy the journey along the way – it’s never about the destination!
