Meet Tammy Durden, founder of Fearless Business Boss, a coach and entrepreneur who turned life’s challenges into a powerful purpose. When disability and motherhood intersected, Tammy carved out a new path—not just for herself, but for countless others like her. Over the past 17 years, she’s built multiple businesses, mentored aspiring professionals, and empowered women, disabled individuals, and mothers of disabled children to pursue careers from home.
At Humans of Fuzia, we are proud to spotlight Tammy’s inspiring story. As a part of our 5.4 million-strong global community committed to supporting women through He for She and She for She, we believe her journey will deeply resonate with anyone striving to find purpose, flexibility, and strength in adversity.
What inspired you to begin your entrepreneurial journey?
I began over 17 years ago when I became disabled and could no longer work outside the home. At the time, I was also homeschooling three children. I started doing virtual assistant work and lead generation for local clients. Eventually, word spread, and it grew. My goal was always to create enough work to empower other disabled professionals and mothers of disabled children—and I’m proud to say we got there.
What challenges did you face early on, and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges was my mindset. Becoming disabled made me question whether I could keep working. But once I knew I could, and after a client pointed out I had a real business, I leaned in. There were times I wanted to give up, especially when business was slow. My faith, family, and especially my husband were my biggest support systems. A strong community makes a huge difference.
Do you currently work solo or with a team?
I’ve done both. I had a big team when I ran my digital agency. Now, since transitioning fully into coaching at the end of 2020, I mostly work on my own. I had a VA at one point, but she moved on to a full-time role. Given how slow this year has been for many coaches, I’m waiting for the right time to bring in support again.
What is a proud moment in your career that stands out?
There are a few. I’ve received recognition in small publications, including being named one of the top coaches in my area by Fortune Leader. But what really means the most is helping others—watching them grow, work from home, and even launch their own businesses. Seeing women achieve their dreams because I helped guide them—that’s the greatest reward.
What are your thoughts on women in leadership today?
I think we’ve made great strides. Leadership used to be a male-dominated space, but women are showing not only potential but true leadership strength. We’re proving we can lead businesses, corporations, and organizations just as effectively—and we’re getting closer to pay equity too. There’s still work to do, but we’re on the right path.
What advice would you give to future women leaders?
Do the hard work, stay focused, and most importantly—don’t give up. Build a strong community around you to support you during low moments. Having cheerleaders and a circle that believes in you can make all the difference.
What is your personal definition of success?
I love that question—it’s the first one I ask my clients. Success is different for everyone. For me, success is being able to work from home, on my own schedule, and still earn a living. It’s not about money alone. It’s about freedom, flexibility, and doing what I love while being present for my family and health.
“Success isn’t just about money—it’s about freedom, fulfillment, and creating a life that works for you.”
