By featuring Robin, we hope to spark conversations that remind our 5-million-strong community that change begins when we raise our youth and embrace the essence of “He for She” and “She for She.”

Q: Robin, let’s begin with your roots. Could you share a little about where your journey started and what shaped your worldview?
Robin: I was born in a small Zambian village, the first white child the community had ever seen. There was no electricity, no doctors, no telephones—just community. I grew up surrounded by the Southern African philosophy of Ubuntu, which means, “I am because we are, and because we are, I am.” That sense of interconnectedness shaped my belief that humans cannot exist in isolation—we thrive through community, care, and support.

Q: How did you move from your early beginnings in Africa to becoming globally known for youth work?
Robin: After Zambia, my family moved to Scotland and then London. For years, I worked in the music industry, organizing world tours and running a recording studio. What changed my life was opening our studio doors to local young people. We offered placements and mentorship, even without formal training at first. The experience was so powerful that I went back to university to study informal and community education. From there, youth work became my life’s calling.

Q: What is the philosophy that guides your work with young people?
Robin: I often say, “It takes a village to raise a child. And if that child is not welcomed into the heart of the village, they may burn it down just to feel a little warmth.” Young people must be at the core of our society. When we ignore them, we lose out on their vibrancy, their ideas, and their capacity to shape the future. That’s why my work is about inclusion, mentorship, and nurturing change.

Q: Could you tell us about one of your most impactful projects?
Robin: In 2019, we created a project called East Side Story, filmed by the BBC. We brought together young people from two rival neighborhoods in East London. At first, they saw each other as enemies. But when they worked on a play together, they realized they shared histories, friendships, even family ties. Within minutes, the barriers began to fall. It was a beautiful reminder of how perception can change everything.

Q: You’ve spoken passionately about masculinity, femininity, and the future of our world. Could you expand on that?
Robin: I believe the world’s greatest problems—wars, economic crises, conflict—are largely caused by male ego, dominance, and patriarchy. What we need now is a shift toward feminine qualities: empathy, nurturing, guidance, and community. That doesn’t mean men are the problem—it’s about moving beyond destructive masculine traits and embracing balance. If we can hand more of life’s decisions to feminine instincts, I truly believe our planet has hope.

Q: With the rise of AI and technology, where do you see humanity heading?
Robin: Technology is incredible—it has given us tools once only dreamt of in science fiction. But it depends on how we use it. If we continue to treat others as enemies, technology will become a tool of division and surveillance. If we embrace unity, empathy, and community, technology can enhance life beautifully. The choice is ours.

Q: Your last name, Lockhart, has a special meaning. Could you share that with us?
Robin: Yes, I discovered not long ago that the Lockhart family motto is “We unlock hearts.” That’s exactly what I strive to do—help people shift from the mind, where anything is possible, to the heart, where only truth exists. Because when we live from the heart, we nurture, we support, and we realize that we are one.

“As a society, we must remember: the truth is that we are one. Nurturing, being kind, and supporting each other is not just the way forward—it’s the only way we will survive and thrive.” – Robin Lockhart
