Nikki Thompson Frazier: Creating Sweet Moments Without Compromise

Nikki Thompson

Nikki Thompson Frazier, founder of Sweet Encounter Bakery & Café in Lansing, Michigan, is a woman driven by love, resilience, and purpose. Her journey began with a simple yet powerful mission—to ensure her daughters, who have food allergies, could enjoy delicious desserts without fear or compromise. Today, Nikki’s story inspires our 5M+ Humans of Fuzia community as a reminder that when women lead with heart and courage, they create change not just for themselves, but for everyone around them.

Q: What inspired you to start your entrepreneurial journey?
A: I started my business because both my girls have food allergies, and I wanted them to be able to enjoy amazing desserts without compromising on taste or texture. Everything we do is completely gluten-free, and it all began with wanting the best for them.

Q: What were some of the biggest challenges you faced while building your brand?
A: One of the biggest challenges was creating a brand people know and trust. Building awareness takes time, so I relied heavily on social media and partnerships with influencers and collaborators to help amplify our message.

Q: Do you work solo, or do you have a team supporting you?
A: I do have a team supporting me.

Q: What do you consider your greatest milestone so far?
A: Opening a successful brick-and-mortar location. I started out of my home, so being able to grow into a physical space and see it thrive has been a major accomplishment.

Q: What are your thoughts on women in leadership today?
A: Women are the backbone of every family and business. Whether leading from the front or behind the scenes, we are the changemakers. It’s important for women to recognize that they not only have a place in entrepreneurship but also have a powerful voice and impact.

Q: What message would you like to share with aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
A: If you have a dream or an idea—go for it. It can be intimidating, especially because women are often pushed out of spaces like corporate or entrepreneurship. But if it’s something you want, find your people, find your tribe, use your resources, and you can make anything possible.

Q: What does success mean to you personally and professionally?
A: Success means doing what aligns with your passions. If what you do makes you happy, that’s what matters most. You’re successful by simply doing what you love on your own terms—not based on anyone else’s expectations.

“Do what aligns with your passions, and you’ll create success on your own terms.”
