Meet Lenay Taylor, a woman whose journey from surviving breast cancer and an abusive marriage to becoming a store manager and author is nothing short of extraordinary. Her story is one of courage, self-discovery, and reinvention — a reminder that healing can lead to new beginnings. Through her resilience, Lenay embodies the spirit of empowerment that Humans of Fuzia celebrates — inspiring women across the globe to reclaim their voice, rebuild their lives, and rise stronger than ever.
What inspired you to start your journey of transformation?
Several challenges shaped who I am today. I was diagnosed with breast cancer shortly after turning 40, and at the same time, I was in a very abusive marriage. Going through both simultaneously forced me to rediscover my sense of self. That rediscovery became the foundation for everything I do today. It changed my life in ways I never imagined.
What has been your proudest milestone so far?
I have a few that I’m deeply proud of. During my marriage, I wasn’t allowed to go out of the house or have friends, so I started my own business from home to care for my children. Later, after leaving that marriage, I entered the retail industry and worked my way up to becoming a store manager — something that once seemed impossible. And most recently, I’ve finished writing a book, which will be published next year. That’s been a huge accomplishment for me.
Do you work independently or have a team that supports you?
I don’t really have a formal team. My husband and children are my biggest supporters, and that’s been enough to keep me motivated and moving forward.
What are your thoughts on women in leadership today?
There’s absolutely no reason why women can’t be incredible leaders. We may face unique challenges in male-dominated spaces, but I’ve worked with many women who have proven themselves to be strong, capable, and inspiring leaders.
What advice would you give to aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
Always be learning, never give up, and find something every single day to be grateful for. Gratitude changes your mindset — it keeps you strong and hopeful, no matter what you face.
What is your idea of success — personally and professionally?
To me, success means being happy with what you’re doing and being proud of what you’ve accomplished. At the end of our lives, we should be able to look back and feel content with the impact we’ve made and the life we’ve lived.
“Never stop learning, never give up, and always find gratitude — that’s how you turn challenges into triumphs.”
