We believe in He for She and She for She—and Laura embodies both.

Laura, could you tell us a little about how Ambition Sports began?
Absolutely. I set up Ambition Sports in 2021, following my own personal challenges. I was bullied throughout school, left early, and in 2019, I survived a major accident on the M1 motorway. That moment changed my life—it made me realize that life is too short not to chase your dreams. I founded Ambition to make a meaningful impact, especially for young people facing emotional and mental health challenges. We work with individuals aged 5 to 25 and focus on the transformative power of sports and education.

What exactly does Ambition Sports do?
We are a multi-sports coaching and academic support company. We work with schools, families, alternative provisions, and even military sites. We teach all kinds of mainstream sports—cricket, football, tennis, dance, and more—but often with a creative twist. For example, we have something called “obstacle rounders,” where players reach obstacles instead of bases. It’s designed to be fun, engaging, and inclusive, especially for those who’ve never found traditional sports appealing.

That’s really innovative. Do you also offer academic services alongside coaching?
Yes, absolutely. We believe that sports and academics can support each other. We offer one-on-one interventions, small group sessions, lunchtime and after-school clubs, and even PE cover. These sessions help young people burn off energy and improve their engagement and focus in school. We also recently launched an Alternative Provision—a more hands-on, community-based educational model for those who don’t thrive in traditional classrooms.

How do you spread awareness about your work in today’s digital world?
We’re active on platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and our website. We’re also trying to build a presence on TikTok—it’s a work in progress! Social media plays a huge role in how we connect with others, share our stories, and grow. It helps us build a community around the impact we’re making.

Do you have any specific short-term or long-term goals for Ambition?
Definitely. Last year, we were contacted by an international school in Spain that wanted our services. That opportunity made us realize that going global could be a real possibility. One big goal is to expand internationally. Another is to work with young offenders and provide coaching in prisons. I truly believe sports can help people break free from past cycles and see new paths for themselves. Closer to home, we’re also aiming to establish our own venue—a safe space for our learners to come together, grow, and feel heard.

As a woman in the sports and business world, what challenges have you faced?
One of the biggest ongoing challenges has been delayed payments. When invoices aren’t paid on time, it affects how we can deliver services. I also think, as a woman, you’re sometimes looked at differently in business—especially in a male-dominated field like sports. But challenges like these have only made me more determined.

“Whatever barriers you’re facing—physical, mental, or societal—know that you can rise above them. If you’ve got a dream, chase it. You don’t need to have it all figured out to start.”
