Kirsten Penaloza: Inspiring Leaders to Lead with Heart and Purpose

Kirsten Penaloza

Kirsten Penaloza’s journey is a testament to resilience, growth, and the power of leadership done right. From starting in customer support to becoming a VP of Client Experience, Kirsten discovered her passion for mentoring and coaching leaders to create thriving, empowering workplaces. At a time when many are navigating career crossroads and self-doubt, her story shines as an inspiration for women and professionals seeking purpose, courage, and transformation.

Q: Can you tell us a bit about yourself and your journey?
A: I came to the U.S. 13 years ago and started in customer support, just looking for a paycheck. Over time, I grew in customer experience, eventually becoming a VP of Client Experience. Along the way, I discovered a passion for leadership and realized how few had inspired me with good examples. I wanted to become the leader I wished I had, and that led me to coaching, mentoring, and creating work environments where people can truly thrive.

Q: How do you structure your coaching?
A: I focus primarily on one-on-one coaching, as it creates the biggest impact tailored to the individual. I also run mastermind groups, like discussions around the Ted Lasso series and leadership lessons, and smaller squads to facilitate peer mentorship. But the heart of my work remains personal coaching, guiding others to grow and lead effectively.

Q: How do you share your work and connect with your audience?
A: LinkedIn and Instagram are my main platforms. LinkedIn is particularly meaningful because it’s about work and leadership, where there’s less noise. I’m also excited to launch a podcast soon to share leadership lessons and my personal journey with a wider audience.

Q: What challenges have you faced in your journey?
A: As a Gen X woman entering entrepreneurship, technology and choosing the right platforms can be overwhelming. Another challenge is personal branding—figuring out how to differentiate myself and share unique insights without feeling like I’m repeating what’s already out there. Imposter syndrome also shows up, questioning whether my experience is significant enough. Overcoming these internal barriers has been crucial.

Q: How do you handle the leap from a stable corporate role to entrepreneurship?
A: It’s definitely scary. I trust my skills and the need for better leadership in the world. I have savings as a safety net, and I’m confident in the impact I can create. Manifestation and trusting the universe have been guiding principles, reinforced by experiences where opportunities arose when I least expected them.

Q: Any motivational advice for others?
A: I come from a modest background and never imagined I’d climb the corporate ladder or own my place. For anyone facing doubts, especially women told they shouldn’t be ambitious, my advice is: believe in yourself, be present, be visible, and go for it. Don’t give up. Shine bright.

“Do your thing. Believe in yourself. Let yourself shine and shine bright.” — Kirsten Penaloza
