What inspired you to leave the corporate world and start your own venture?
After spending decades climbing the corporate ladder and reaching senior leadership roles, I realized it wasn’t fulfilling. I missed leading teams directly, motivating people, and being hands-on. The pandemic really pushed me to reflect, especially when I had to make tough decisions that didn’t align with my values. I knew I wanted to create a business where I could work in my own way, support others, and stay true to how I believe people should be treated.

Who do you primarily work with at Bright CX?
My current focus is on early-stage entrepreneurs and solopreneurs—people who’ve just taken the leap I took years ago. They might be working alone or with one other person, and I help them implement the right tech and processes to scale their business efficiently.

What are some of the benefits your clients experience after working with you?
The biggest benefit is simplicity. When I started, I was overwhelmed by endless tech options and expensive software. I guide my clients to avoid that trap. I help them implement a streamlined, integrated system that keeps costs down and removes the guesswork. This allows them to focus on growth without burning out or running out of money too soon.

Have you ever struggled with imposter syndrome as an entrepreneur?
Absolutely—every single day. And I still do sometimes. Being an entrepreneur means stepping into the unknown constantly. You have to get comfortable being uncomfortable. The comparison game never ends, but I’ve learned the only lane that matters is your own. You grow the most when you lean into the discomfort.

Looking back, what would you do differently when starting your business?
I spent too long in learning mode, thinking everything had to be perfect before launching. In hindsight, I should’ve sought some initial guidance and then just taken action—putting things out there, testing, pivoting. Perfection isn’t the goal—progress is.

Many entrepreneurs feel overwhelmed by tech. How do you help simplify it for them?
Most of my clients don’t want to be tech experts, and they shouldn’t have to be. I use AI and automation to simplify processes so they barely have to touch the system. Whether it’s managing pipelines, automating communications, or handling admin tasks, I build the solution for them. It’s like driving a car—you don’t need to understand the engine to get where you’re going.

What trends do you see shaping the future of business and tech?
AI is the big one. It’s transforming how businesses run—saving time, reducing manual tasks, and improving customer experience. Even small businesses need to embrace it. AI can automate repetitive tasks so entrepreneurs can focus on what truly matters. I’m passionate about showing businesses how AI can work for them, not against them.

How do you define success today, both personally and professionally?
For me, success is all about time—having time to do what fulfills me, spend with loved ones, and still help others succeed. My wife has been unwell, and that’s made me realize time is our most precious resource. I want my business to run efficiently so I can help clients do the same and live the life they want.

What common challenges do you see entrepreneurs face, and how do you help them overcome them?
Many entrepreneurs get overwhelmed, panic, and make emotionally driven decisions. It’s easy to get attached to your business like it’s your child. But you need to look at the data, not just feelings. I help my clients disassociate from that emotional fog, make strategic choices, and treat their business like the entity it is—not just an extension of themselves.

Is there anything exciting you’re currently working on?
Yes, I’m launching new AI solutions for local businesses that simplify customer interactions and improve online reputation. With AI-driven chatbots and automation, businesses can save time, reduce no-shows, and even rank higher in Google’s new AI-driven search results—without the hassle of traditional SEO. It’s exciting to be helping businesses thrive, especially in my local community.

“Time is the most valuable thing we have. If I can help entrepreneurs create more freedom in their lives by simplifying their businesses, that’s success to me,” says Karl Sandland—a reminder that true growth comes from working smarter, not harder.
