What sparked your journey as a coach/entrepreneur? Was there a moment, challenge, or person that pushed you to take this path?
There were several moments which led to a key moment where I knew I’d be an entrepreneur.
After going to university to get my HND in printing/design, I came home and decided to go back to college during the evening and at weekends because the jobs I was offered didn’t suit my mum. She wanted me to stay in the same town and not go elsewhere. It was frustrating, but it also helped to design my future pathway.
However, I looked to study something completely different from design. I had (and still have) a love for Colour Consultancy, fashion and then progressed into beauty and complementary/holistic therapy and loved it because I was taking care of people and it came naturally to me.
I remember standing on the doorstep of our family home back in the mid-1990s and saying to my twin sister that we will be running our own business, but before that, we will end up working for similar or the same companies, but in different departments.
My twin sister laughed and I didn’t understand why she laughed. I knew it was something that was going to happen, and we’d be able to gain experience from various companies, see how they’re run, how they treat their customers/clients, add to, and utilise our skillset. I was always ‘people-facing’ and serving them to ensure that their visit was not only worth it, but they also had a successful ‘end result’.
We did exactly that, and our dad knew I had entrepreneurial spirit and wanted me to have my own salon, which I turned down. He asked why? I said it’s because there’s still so much to learn and I want to see what the best way forward is going to be.
I was 23 at the time and I started our business in 2009, aged 35. I planted the seed and it all came to fruition. My twin sis, Anita, came on board in February 2010 because I needed the help and I was basically swamped with work, which I wasn’t expecting. She brought her awesome skillset which was a bonus!
I believe that my pathway was being orchestrated by the universe—words and thoughts have power—and I haven’t looked back.
Tell us a bit about what you do! What’s the purpose behind your business, and how does it make a difference in people’s lives?
Crimson Catz educate, evolve and empower the communities we meet and work with, and we holistically take care of women physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually using various therapies, tools and techniques to provide solutions.
Some of the therapies include trauma therapy, counselling, massage/sport therapies, Laughter Yoga, crystal therapies/chakra cleansing, traditional Yoga, meditation, breathwork, hypnotherapy, somatic singing, and Spiritual wellness coaching.
We have since launched The Somatic Healing Circle Retreat, which will take place in Portugal in May 2026, to help harmonise your mind, body, spirit and soul whilst elevating your self-expression and transforming your journey.
More recently, men have also looked to us for help after seeing and hearing about the results our ladies have come away with.
The purpose behind our business is to help educate, evolve and empower those of you who are going through various trauma, but to also encourage resilience, self-expression, and the harmonising of your internal four rooms, which are mental, emotional, physical and spiritual.
Our business purpose has also enabled us to help various charities and provided community cohesion and connection.
We believe that you should have access to a better life, and put yourself first by allowing a self-care routine.
Thinking back to the start of your career, what were some of the biggest challenges you faced in establishing yourself as a coach/entrepreneur? How did you work through them?
The main challenge at the start of my career was based around my health. In 2007, I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism which meant lower immunity and my energy levels could drop at any time; therefore, I would feel more sleepy or lethargic than usual.
I’d have to monitor my energy levels, do the heavier things in the morning and leave the light work until the afternoon. I also had my twin sister, Anita, who is also my business partner, to help carry what was left to do where applicable.
My energy levels increased when I qualified as a fitness professional and took up instructing classes.
I also limited how many clients I’d see per day so I was able to give them the best service, and I found meditation to be really helpful when it came to recharging my energy state—and I still meditate.
Is there a milestone or achievement you’re really proud of that you’d like to share?
There are many achievements, for one, the many awards we’ve become finalists for, but most of all, our business has been going from strength to strength for almost 16 years. We’ve been through several recessions, COVID, and uncertainty—and we’re still here!
Our clients have been with us for many years, some, right from the beginning of our startup and some for 30+ years, from my college days.
I used to work within a surgery, as part of ‘Social Prescription’ in the UK. This is where doctors’ patients would be signposted to me.
My role was to help their patients reduce their medication intake, or have the patient come off medication completely—but also safely.
Complementary/holistic therapies, Rapid Neurofascial Reset and talking therapies proved to help a lot and even Spiritual wellness coaching proved a success. Patients who became my clients found that they were not suffering with anxiety or depression—instead, they were trying to make sense of themselves on a Spiritual level, or even going through a Spiritual awakening.
My business partner would look after the ladies who were menopausal and diabetic by running specialist fitness sessions, and it was fantastic to have fitness and therapies play a key part in getting people back on their feet and leading the lifestyle they deserve.
As I mentioned earlier, we’re also excited for our next step in holding The Somatic Healing Circle Retreat as part of the bigger plan as we move forward in our business.
Women are making big moves in workplaces around the world, leading alongside their male counterparts. What are your thoughts on women in leadership today?
Women have grown to become more understanding and kinder towards themselves and other women in the workplace. I remember the days when a woman ranked high in a workplace, she would either have to juggle her family life to a point where she would have to put her work first—and this was because she wasn’t allowed to have commitments outside of work.
Also, with the menopause and other health issues women have to deal with, I’d like to think that there is, or would be, a compassionate approach towards other women who are going through this and maybe apply rules which would help co-workers be understood—and that also goes for grieving an animal companion. Emotional intelligence is key.
Women can change the world to encourage more businesses to become sustainable, care about animal and human welfare, provide a ‘reach out’ criteria to those who are vulnerable and so forth.
We’re lionesses after all—we’ve always been the workers looking after everyone—but we can also put time aside to self-care, we hold the ‘back up’ plan when everything goes wrong, we’re the doers, and we’re FEARLESS!
What advice would you give to future women leaders and aspiring entrepreneurs?
Test what you’re looking to provide with potential clients/customers, believe in your dreams and what you do. Also find an accountability partner if you are a solopreneur and FLY, BABY FLY! Enjoy the ride—failure is learning and change is growth!
Keep going and remember to self-care, you count too!
