What were your initial years of growing up like? Tell us about your life before starting your corporate journey/venture/initiative.
I grew up in an entrepreneurial household where my parents owned automotive businesses and a home-based direct sales business on the side. They were immigrants to Canada who started with nothing, worked hard, and built a life for us as a family. At 7 years old, I started helping in the direct sales business, learning the ropes as I grew up. At 12, I made and sold jewelry at school and in the market. At 16, I started my first business.
Every industry that is now a large-scale, top-notch business once started as a small idea in the minds of entrepreneurs. What was that idea or motivation that made you start your business/initiative? What motivated you within to say YES, go for it!
I always knew I wanted to be a business owner. My inspiration was my parents and all the entrepreneurs we knew. My motivation was to be in control of my life, income, and potential—to use my gifts and talents in the best possible way. I didn’t know much about business at the time, but I knew I could learn.
Would you like to share with our young budding women entrepreneurs the change you would like to see in the world if given an opportunity?
I would like to see people take the limits off their creative potential and step out to live life fully alive—doing what they love, what they are great at, and what they can earn a healthy income from. I want to see them bring their gifts and talents to the world and be rewarded with a fulfilling and fruitful life. I want women to have confidence in themselves and recognize their full potential as entrepreneurs, leaders, and difference-makers.
Women are a growing force in the workplace worldwide, standing shoulder to shoulder with their male counterparts. There are cracks in glass ceilings everywhere, with many women breaking through to carve out a space right at the top of the pyramid. What are your thoughts about women leadership today?
The only limits (ceilings) are the ones we accept for ourselves. If someone doesn’t open the door for you, make your own.
What’s the most important thing you have learned in your personal life and professional journey? What is your personal motto in life?
To trust God, and trust myself and my abilities. All success rises and falls on leadership.
With your grit and determination, you are making a considerable impact, breaking through, and serving as role models for many budding entrepreneurs. What would you want to say to our young women leaders/audience reading this?
Beliefs drive behavior, which determines results. Beliefs are learned. Challenge your limiting beliefs and transform them into positive, empowering beliefs. Believe in yourself and your ability to learn, grow, and create value in the world.
