Duanita Norman

Meet Duanita Norman, the founder of Mature Fit and Fabulous, a passionate fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle coach helping women—especially those over 50—reclaim their health, confidence, and energy. Having undergone open-heart surgery at a young age, Duanita recognized early on the importance of prioritizing wellness. With decades of personal practice, corporate experience, and empathy, she now empowers others to embrace aging not as a decline, but as a stage to thrive.

At Humans of Fuzia, we are proud to feature Duanita because her mission aligns with our global community of 5M+ members committed to empowerment. Her story shows women that it’s never too late to prioritize health, live with vitality, and pass on the gift of self-care to future generations.

Q: Duanita, could you tell us about the work you do?
I focus on fitness, nutrition, and healthy lifestyle coaching—because all three go hand in hand. My primary clients are women over 50, but I also work with younger women and even some men. My goal is to empower people to thrive at every stage of life.

I came into this field because of my own health journey. I had open-heart surgery when I was younger, and I realized I needed to live differently. Fitness gave me a healthy heart, and over time I studied nutrition and wellness when there wasn’t much information out there. What I offer today is the culmination of decades of personal learning and lived experience.

Q: Why is it especially important for women over 50 to focus on fitness and health?
Because life is really just halfway at that point! Many women feel like aging means decline, but I teach them that they can absolutely thrive in their 50s, 60s, 70s, and beyond.

Menopause is a big challenge—hormonal shifts, hot flashes, mood changes, bloating caused by cortisol, and more. Many women confuse these changes with “eating too much” when in reality, it’s their bodies adjusting. My role is to help them understand what’s happening, reduce stress, stay active, and learn not to give up. The body may not bounce back exactly as it was in youth, but it can come back strong when we stay the course.

Q: How do you support your clients through these changes?
I help them pay attention to their bodies, stay consistent, and learn that self-care isn’t selfish—it’s necessary. I often remind clients that their bodies give warning signs when something is off. Things like dehydration, poor sleep, and stress can impact their energy and health just as much as food choices.

I also use the car analogy: just like a car needs the right fuel, our bodies do too. If we don’t give it what it needs, it won’t run properly. My coaching helps people identify what their “fuel” should be, so they can feel their best.

Q: What made you choose an online training model?
I’ve been working out at home since my son was little. I realized I got better results in my own space than in a gym. With online training, my clients get the same freedom—privacy, comfort, and the chance to focus deeply without distractions.

It also gives me a chance to build stronger connections, because clients can open up more freely in their own space. For many, it’s a safe and empowering way to grow.

Q: How do you spread awareness about your work?
I use social media—LinkedIn, YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook. I’ve also been on podcasts, attended local health fairs, and I never miss a chance to carry my brand with me—like wearing my Mature Fit and Fabulous logo shirts, which often spark conversations.

I’m also working on launching an online course so people can learn at their own pace and apply strategies into their daily lives.

Q: What challenges have you faced in building your business?
My biggest challenge has been the technical side—building websites, linking systems, and managing digital tools. At first, I really struggled, but I’ve learned to ask for help. I have a business consultant who’s tech-savvy, I take courses, and I lean on my network for guidance. The key has been not letting those challenges stop me.

Q: What message would you like to leave with our readers?
It’s never too late. Self-care is not selfish—it’s essential. Just like on a plane, you need to put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others. The best way to show up for your loved ones is to take care of yourself first.

For me, part of my motivation is my son. I don’t want him to carry the burden of caring for me if I can prevent it. My gift to him—and to myself—is to stay strong and healthy so that both of us can live our best lives.
