Ruth, what inspired you to become a coach and step into this field?
Back in October 2016, I experienced a traumatic miscarriage. Shortly after, I was placed on a performance review at work and told I lacked emotional intelligence. That shattered me. I spiraled into depression and had suicidal thoughts. Business coaching wasn’t enough to pull me out of it, but discovering high-performance coaching changed my life. I realized the problem wasn’t just me—it was also the toxic corporate culture I was in. That pushed me to leave and retrain as a high-performance coach. Along that journey, I discovered the work of Dr. Daniel Amen and became certified as a Brain Health Professional. I fell in love with understanding and healing the brain—and now I help others do the same.
What were the biggest challenges you faced in your career and personal life?
The first was feeling like I wasn’t enough—a biological and emotional failure. I had to rewire years of negative self-talk and learn to become my own best friend. Imposter syndrome is so common, especially for women, and overcoming that was a huge step.
Secondly, I struggled with showing up as myself—without hiding behind a company or brand. That took courage and time.
Finally, losing my father in 2019 was another major trauma. I was there when he passed, supporting my mum, calling family, and experiencing the depth of that grief. I discovered Havening, a powerful technique that helped me release the trauma without reliving it. I still grieve my dad, but I’ve let go of the traumatic encoding—and now I help my clients do the same.
What proud moments stand out for you?
Becoming a mother is my proudest achievement. Every day, I get to teach my daughter how to love and care for her brain—something I never learned growing up. Through my work, I also help other parents and children protect and optimize their brain health. Knowing I’m making a difference not just for my clients but for future generations brings me immense joy.
Do you work alone, or do you have support?
I have a small, trusted team and leverage AI tools, which are essential for entrepreneurs today. Beyond that, I’ve built a broad global network of clinical experts. This ensures my clients have access to world-class advice and care, without geographical limitations. It’s not a solo effort—it’s about collaboration to provide the best support possible.
What are your views on women’s empowerment today?
We’ve made progress, but there’s more to be done. I believe we need to embrace our natural strengths as women, especially how our brains are wired differently. Female brains have fewer neurons but more connections, making us naturally collaborative. Instead of trying to mimic men in the workplace, we should leverage our unique abilities to lead effectively, foster connection, and drive positive change. Collaboration, diversity, and understanding how our brains work—this is where true empowerment lies.
What advice would you share with aspiring women leaders?
Be yourself. Don’t fear change—especially with AI transforming the world. Embrace it as an extension of your brain, not a replacement for it. When used wisely, AI can amplify your growth and help your team flourish. Optimizing your brain, being true to yourself, and leaning into change—that’s how you unlock your full potential.
“You are enough. Fall in love with your brain, embrace your uniqueness, and don’t be afraid to show up as your true self—the world needs it.”
