Dr Doreen Mafara: Redefining success through faith, freedom, and fearless self-belief

Dr Doreen Mafara

Dr Doreen Mafara’s journey is one of courage, reinvention, and deep self-awareness. A multi-hyphenate entrepreneur, author, model, and actor based in the UK, she embodies what it means to listen to an inner calling and honor it wholeheartedly. Humans of Fuzia is proud to feature Dr Doreen because her story resonates with millions of women navigating self-doubt, career transitions, and the desire for purpose-driven independence. Her journey reminds our global community that empowerment begins from within—and that both She for She and He for She thrive when women rise together.

What inspired you to begin your entrepreneurial journey?
I would describe it as a calling. When I was working a nine-to-five job, I felt like I had reached a ceiling and needed something more fulfilling. I had always wanted to be self-employed, even from my twenties when I was in business with my husband. Although I worked in roles like project management and business administration, I still felt unfulfilled. A turning point came when my son took me on a journey to Bali. That experience helped me rediscover myself, and when I returned, I quit my job and began writing my books. From spirituality and women empowerment to children and animals, each book reflects a part of who I am. Today, I also work in modeling and acting, allowing me to build multiple streams of income. I hope my journey inspires other women to spread their wings and become financially independent.

What challenges did you face while building your personal brand, and how did you overcome them?
One of my biggest challenges was publishing my books. I approached several publishers, but the offers didn’t align with my vision. Eventually, through divine timing and the right people, I learned how to publish my books independently on Amazon. That was a major breakthrough. Visibility was another challenge, but interviews and conversations like this helped me reach audiences beyond the UK, including Asia. What once felt like a barrier turned into a blessing.

Do you work solo, or do you have a team supporting you?
My team is my loved ones and what I call “destined helpers.” These are the people who support me, guide me, and help amplify my voice. Everyone who plays a role in sharing my story is part of my journey.

What has been your proudest milestone so far?
My spiritual journey. It helped me step out of my comfort zone and become the best version of myself. That inner transformation gave me the confidence to be where I am today, and that’s something I’m deeply proud of.

What are your thoughts on women in leadership today?
Women are thriving, and what I love most is how we are supporting and uplifting each other. Collaboration is key. When women share knowledge, remain grounded, and lead with values like respect, dignity, love, and harmony, real empowerment happens. Leadership today is about sisterhood and accountability.

What message would you like to share with aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
People say the sky is the limit, but I believe the mindset is the limit. Get out of your comfort zone and believe in yourself. Rejection is not rejection—it’s redirection. Faith is essential; it’s like Wi-Fi—you may not see it, but you know you’re connected. Your vision is yours alone, and no one else can see it the way you do. Trust it and keep going.

What does success mean to you—professionally and personally?
Success, to me, is contentment and impact. It’s about how you make others feel and how you inspire them. Material things can exist, but without inner peace, they mean very little. True success is leaving people better than you found them.

“The mindset is the limit. Have faith, believe in your vision, and allow life to unfold.” — Dr Doreen Mafara
