Q: What inspired you to begin your journey as an entrepreneur and storyteller?
Donia Youssef: Before becoming a mother, I worked for Lord Alan Sugar’s company and always dreamed of starting something of my own. After my first child was born, I launched Tiny Angels, a children’s modeling and acting agency, inspired by my daughter’s baby modeling. Within six months, it took off, and I managed a thriving business with thousands of young talents. But in 2006, my life shifted when I was diagnosed with cancer while caring for my newborn. That experience led me to step back, focus on my family, and eventually turn my pain into something meaningful. I began writing about my cancer journey, and my first book—helping parents explain cancer to their children—became a bestseller within 48 hours. Since then, I’ve written 35 children’s books and built a publishing house, Monster Publishing, to empower others to share their voices and stories.

Q: What keeps you motivated to write and create?
Donia Youssef: Everything I write comes from the heart. For me, it’s about purpose and legacy. I’ve seen how difficult it is for families to talk about illness, mental health, and loss. Having lost my sister to suicide, I witnessed her children’s struggles and the gaps in support. I wanted to create tools that educate, comfort, and guide children and families through difficult times. Writing is my way of leaving something meaningful behind for my own children and supporting others worldwide.

Q: How do you view women in leadership today?
Donia Youssef: Women are natural leaders. As mothers, multitasking becomes second nature, and that translates into strong leadership skills. I think it’s wonderful to see barriers breaking down and women stepping into leadership roles across industries. The balance between perspectives—male and female—is powerful. Change can feel uncomfortable, but embracing it leads to progress, and I believe we’re heading in a positive direction.

Q: What message would you share with aspiring women leaders and entrepreneurs?
Donia Youssef: Follow your heart and believe in yourself. Don’t let doubts or others’ opinions stop you. Life will have setbacks, but each obstacle can become fuel to keep going. Start small, keep the ball rolling, and persist through challenges. Success comes from belief, hope, and persistence.

Q: What does success mean to you personally and professionally?
Donia Youssef: Success is overcoming obstacles and achieving what you set out to do. It’s about having structure, goals, and the determination to see them through. For me, success is not just financial—it’s also about reputation, impact, and leaving behind something of value. Personally, it means creating a legacy my children can be proud of.

“From trauma, you can create purpose. Every setback is an opportunity to rise stronger and inspire others.” – Donia Youssef
