At Humans of Fuzia, we share journeys that inspire growth, resilience, and meaningful impact. In this feature, we spotlight Dave Robertson, an experienced advisor and consultant who has spent nearly three decades helping organizations transform their financial and operational strategies. Through his work at Cash Path Advisors, he brings a value-driven, people-first approach to business while advocating for authenticity, clear communication, and inclusive leadership. His journey offers powerful insights for our global community of over 5 million individuals working toward impact, empowerment, and collective growth through He for She and She for She.
Can you tell us about your background and what inspired you to help others as an advisor?
I’ve been working full-time since I was 16, and my first job after college was with a bank, where I worked in an internal consulting group. The work was exciting because it was creative and varied — we helped business leaders and executive management solve challenges and improve performance. That experience gave me a deep appreciation for advisory work.
After banking, I worked with a nonprofit organization and later moved into consulting. Consulting gave me the opportunity to help clients directly, apply ideas in personalized ways, and create meaningful impact across organizations. I’ve now spent close to 30 years in advisory roles.
Over time, I also felt a desire to do things differently. Some advisory firms can become slow or inefficient, and I wanted to create approaches that deliver value quickly and effectively by leveraging expertise and technology, including AI, to support corporate finance functions and organizations.
What does your work focus on today?
Through my consulting work, I collaborate closely with the office of the CFO, supporting diagnostic and transformation-driven initiatives. I also help organizations with product strategy, pricing, and sales enablement.
We work with companies of all sizes — from global enterprises to early-stage businesses — and aim to remain flexible so we can meet clients’ unique needs. The goal is to provide scalable and effective solutions without unnecessary complexity.
Alongside consulting, I also pursue creative interests such as writing, art, and music. These creative projects give me a different perspective and balance the analytical side of my work.
What are your thoughts on AI and maintaining authenticity in today’s professional world?
I see AI as a powerful tool, but it should never replace human expertise or authentic communication. While AI is becoming more advanced and accessible, true value comes from going beyond what AI alone can produce.
In our work, AI supports our processes, but our engagements remain people-led. Human experience, understanding, and relationships are still essential. In client-facing roles, trust and credibility come from genuine communication and tailored solutions.
AI can enhance productivity, generate ideas, and assist with analysis, but it should augment human capability rather than replace it. Authenticity and personal expertise are what ultimately create meaningful impact.
What advice would you give to young entrepreneurs and executives starting their careers?
You need to understand how you create value and why your work matters. Once you’re clear about your purpose and the outcomes you want to achieve, you can choose the right tools — including AI — to support your journey.
Today, there is a lot of noise and low-quality content, especially on social media. But over time, people will gravitate toward authentic voices and meaningful contributions. Focus on delivering real value, sharing unique perspectives, and maintaining quality rather than following trends.
What are your views on women in leadership and workplace empowerment?
I believe organizations thrive when they value individuals for their unique strengths. Everyone brings different perspectives, experiences, and qualities to the table, and inclusive environments allow those strengths to flourish.
For women and minorities to succeed, organizations must have clear and fair systems for evaluation, growth, and recognition. When companies foster respect, inclusivity, and strong governance, individuals from all backgrounds can thrive and contribute meaningfully.
Empowerment comes from recognizing the value each person brings and creating environments where everyone’s contributions are understood and celebrated.
What challenges have shaped your journey, and what have they taught you?
Many of my biggest challenges have involved communication rather than technical skills. Early in my career, while managing a team, I received feedback from a colleague who helped me understand how my message had been interpreted differently than I intended. That experience taught me the importance of understanding others’ perspectives.
Since then, I’ve learned that effective leadership requires empathy, active listening, and the ability to adapt communication styles. Understanding people — their perspectives, motivations, and responses — remains an ongoing learning process, but it’s also one of the most rewarding aspects of professional growth.
“True impact comes from creating real value, communicating authentically, and continuously learning from every challenge along the journey.”
