Q: Amanda, what inspired you to move into speaking and coaching?
I actually began as a physiotherapist, and like many in that profession, I noticed how much of people’s physical pain was connected to emotional or psychological issues. That made me a teacher as much as a healer. Over time, this shifted into occupational health, ergonomics, and behavior change. One day, I was asked to speak at a conference. I thought it was just training, but a professional speaker saw me and said, “You should be a speaker.” That moment changed my life. With his mentorship and later years of study with Michael Grinder, the world’s leading authority on nonverbal communication, I discovered how powerful it is to combine content with process—to help people not only understand but truly transform.

Q: You often speak about ‘fear’ and its connection to joy. Can you tell us more about that?
Yes. At the core of most of our struggles are three main fears: I’m not good enough, I’m not safe, and I don’t belong. I had what I call the trifecta of all three, and overcoming them has been my lifelong work. The truth is, these fears are just stories we tell ourselves, often formed between the ages of 0–7. When we become self-aware, we can see these patterns and begin to change them. My JOY Project and my book on joy came from this realization—fear is the biggest blocker of joy. If we can work to eradicate fear, even in small ways, we can live more authentically and joyfully.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge in your personal and professional journey?
My biggest challenge was learning to believe I was worth loving. For a long time, I didn’t love myself and felt worthless. That belief shaped so many of my decisions and relationships. Over the years, through mentors, self-reflection, and persistence, I’ve learned to embrace self-love and accept my perfectly imperfect self. Even today, at 71, it’s still a practice. More recently, I’ve also had to navigate moving countries, facing uncertainty, and rebuilding community. But each challenge has been a reminder of the importance of self-awareness, gratitude, and staying connected to love over fear.

Q: What advice would you give to entrepreneurs and individuals dealing with self-doubt?
First, recognize that self-doubt is just a story. Ask yourself: When did this story start? Who benefited from me telling it? Most of the time, these stories come from childhood, not reality. The key is self-awareness—learning to recognize your fears, grounding yourself when anxiety strikes, and reminding yourself: You are good enough. You are worth loving. You belong. Change starts with small shifts, but those shifts create transformation.

“In the end, joy is not about eliminating challenges—it’s about choosing love over fear, moment by moment.” – Amanda Gore
