Humans of Fuzia in conversation with Shruti Shandilya

Can you share your story — how did you end up where you are today?
My journey into HR wasn’t something I had planned from the start — it unfolded naturally as I kept following what I enjoyed most: connecting with people, understanding their needs, and helping them grow. Over the years, I realized that HR is not just about policies and processes; it’s about being the bridge between people and opportunities. Becoming a mother deepened my empathy and patience, qualities that I now bring into my work every single day. It taught me that behind every employee is a person with dreams, challenges, and a story — and I try to honor that in every interaction.

What’s a value you live by every day — and is there a childhood memory connected to it?
Kindness is the value I live by every day. Growing up, I was taught to treat people with respect, no matter who they are or what they do. I’ve carried that lesson forward into my career. It reminds me that every person deserves to be seen, heard, and valued — and that kindness always goes a long way in building trust and genuine connections.

What’s a moment that made you feel really proud of yourself?
One of my proudest moments was returning to work after having my child and still being able to balance my role as a mother and my responsibilities as an HR professional. There was a time I doubted whether I could give my best to both, but the day I realized I was excelling in my work and being present for my child, I knew I had found my rhythm. That sense of balance didn’t happen overnight — it came with a lot of learning, support, and self-belief.

How has being at Fuzia made a difference in your life?
Fuzia has been more than just a workplace for me — it’s been a community that believes in people’s potential and encourages them to bring their whole selves to work. Here, I’ve found the freedom to innovate in HR, the trust to handle responsibilities my way, and the warmth of a team that genuinely cares. Being part of an organization that champions women and creativity has made me feel both empowered and inspired in ways I never imagined.

What message would you give to someone who wants to be in your kind of role?
HR is more than recruitment or handling grievances — it’s about building trust, creating an environment where people can thrive, and sometimes being the quiet support in someone’s career journey. If you want to be in this role, you need to listen more than you speak, be fair even when it’s hard, and remember that every decision affects a real person. And most importantly, never lose your human touch, no matter how much technology or data becomes part of the job.

Shruti continues to inspire by balancing her roles with grace and showing that when empathy meets action, workplaces transform into communities.
