Katie Newman, Diploma in Personal Performance Coaching and certified NLP Practitioner through The Coaching Academy, lives in Winchester with her husband Tim and their 2 children.
She says that, “I love being outside, eating cheese and am curiously good at hula-hooping. I’m a professional coach and the founder of Rewilders.”
Rewilders helps people to bring their best to work that changes the world. This means that Katie supports business owners and leaders who are out to have a positive impact through their daily work, so that ‘good‘ companies win, and the world becomes a better place through the power of business.
Tell us about your life before the venture/ leading up to your venture?
Previously I was a professional marketeer. I worked for Marks and Spencer, Mars Chocolate and a scaling British startup called Wheyhey! All these companies were purpose-led, seeing their reason for being in business as bigger than just making money. They all wanted to leave the world a better place and create positive change for their employees, customers and stakeholders.
These experiences hugely shaped my view of the role that business could play in creating a better future, and the opportunity there was for organisations to be part of the solution rather than the problem.
I also learnt how fundamentally important people were to a businesses success. When a company had the ability to unlock the potential of their people, unite and motivate them behind a common goal and give them the freedom to be themselves, anything was possible. I realised that if we could consistently create these powerful cultures in businesses who were out to do good, then they would have the ability to effect enormous change.
So that’s why I set up Rewilders… To support founders and leaders who were out to make a difference through helping them unlock their own potential and that of their teams.
Tell us something about your organization. What is it about and how is it helpful for people?
Rewilders helps people to ‘rewild‘ themselves. We’ve learnt from nature that when we stop intervening and hand back control, we see natural environments flourish and grow. They rewild… returning to their balanced, thriving, sustainable ecological states where they self-manage and self-restore.
I help people to do the same. To shed the baggage that they’ve picked up from a lifetime of expectations, being told what they ‘should’ do or how they ‘should’ be, and feeling like they are woefully inadequate.
I help them to rediscover who they truly are, and to fall back in love with the amazing person that they were created to be. I help them to feel confident in their own abilities and innate talents, and to have the courage to bring them to their businesses so that they show up at their best.
What has been the response of the consumers towards your venture?
Since starting my business in 2019, I have worked with over 200 different purpose-led clients delivering over 400 hours of coaching… supporting those working to get more people outdoors, to those teaching prisoners how to bake, to those creating neurodiverse workplaces, to those serving up nutritious, local, sustainable food.
The majority of my work now comes through word of mouth and referrals, so that is the best proof for me that my clients are finding our work together impactful.
I also find that often clients come back to me for further support in the following months and years, which is always a real delight getting to support them again as they move into a new chapter.
My favourite ever testimonial has come from my client Michelle who said “I cannot recommend Katie highly enough. Her warmth and empathy create an environment in which you feel safe to reveal the inner workings of your mind. If you dream of using your unique skill set to leave this world a better place than you found it, do get in touch with Katie.”
How has your life changed because of your venture?
My life has been changed dramatically by what I now do. Aside from the fun, freedom and flexibility I get from running my own business, I get to spend my time helping other people to realise how amazing they are, and empowering them to make the world a better place. I could not think of a better use of my time and talents. What a joy and a privilege to have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the world through others, whilst still earning money.
My job also affords me the opportunity to continually grow and stretch myself. The more I learn and the more I invest in my own personal development, the better I become at what I do, and the more impact I can have on my clients and the world.
Give a motivational message for the audience/women who are reading this.
Stop trying to be perfect. It’s an illusion, and an energy-sapping, pressure-loaded endeavour. Instead start focussing on trying to become more you.
Get to know yourself, realise how talented and skilled you are, understand that you are enough and have the courage to show up as yourself and fully engage in life. Because that is when you will feel most confident, you will do your best work, and you will have the presence and impact required to change the world.
