What were your early years like? Could you share a bit about your life before you began your entrepreneurial journey?
Before founding Carepatron in late 2021, I held key roles in healthcare technology and strategic leadership at some of the world’s leading organizations, including Telstra and ANZ. My experience driving change and enhancing performance in these companies provided the foundation for my entrepreneurial venture into the healthcare sector.
Was there any turning point in your life that changed your journey? If so, what was it?
What I find most interesting is the transition from the roles I previously mentioned to actually co-founding Carepatron alongside our CTO, David Pene. My journey began with a background in clinical psychology, which has always kept me connected to healthcare. After moving into corporate and tech consulting, I eventually found my way back to the healthcare sector. Leading a team of like-minded individuals who share the same passion for making a difference in healthcare has been one of the most fulfilling experiences of my career so far.
Everyone faces unique challenges when starting an entrepreneurial journey. Could you share the difficulties you’ve encountered and the strategies you’ve used to cope with them?
Gaining momentum is one of the most significant challenges small business owners face in the initial stages of their business. Every new business doesn’t skyrocket immediately, and as much as it’s part of the journey, it can be discouraging when this limbo stretches not just for weeks but for months on end. Some business owners may take the lack of momentum as a sign to give up, while others use it as motivation to keep going and try more disruptive marketing methods.
Friends and family can definitely help with this hurdle by showing support for the business as its primary customers. Support expressed through purchasing power is a big deal for a budding business, providing both financial and emotional help during these challenging times.
What impact do you feel you have been able to create with your work so far, and how would you want to grow in the next few years?
Democratizing access to healthcare tools is essential to ensure that every healthcare practitioner has the software and resources needed to deliver better client outcomes. Access to quality healthcare technology should not be dictated by socioeconomic status, location, or other arbitrary factors—it is a fundamental need for all practitioners, regardless of their profession or circumstances. Achieving true healthcare accessibility requires strong collaboration between health technologists and clinicians to develop affordable, scalable, and inclusive systems.
This vision is at the heart of Carepatron. We equip practitioners with cutting-edge tools that enhance patient care and elevate the practitioner experience. We see health as a collective responsibility, and Carepatron is our contribution to this shared goal. By supporting healthcare professionals, we are helping to build a brighter future in healthcare for everyone.
Could you share with our aspiring young women entrepreneurs the changes you believe are important for the world, and how men can support these changes?
A lot has changed in terms of inclusivity and diversity over the past decade, but there’s still significant work to be done and important conversations to be had. The challenge arises when one or both parties dismiss these discussions, even when all that’s needed is a willingness to listen. Clinging to traditional gender norms in today’s world is outdated and counterproductive. Both women and men should be free to pursue their dreams and aspirations without being hindered by antiquated beliefs or societal judgment. Overcoming these barriers is essential, and only then can we fully support one another with equal effort. While there is still a long road ahead, if we don’t start addressing these issues now, we risk making no progress at all.
Your grit and determination are making a significant impact. What message would you like to share with our young women leaders and the audience reading this?
Believe in your values and seek out an environment that aligns with them to help you thrive. At Carepatron, we’re a fully remote team that values mutual respect—honoring each other’s time, work ethic, and contributions to our shared mission. Finding a place where you feel valued, respected, and empowered to flourish can be challenging, but don’t give up the search. Hope is a powerful force that can propel you forward. As long as you hold onto it, you can achieve anything.
