Can you share a short summary of your background for the article?
I am a trauma-informed coach and consultant. I am an immigrant from a beautiful country in East Africa called Kenya. I am also a veteran, having served 5 years in the US Navy. I am an avid world traveler with a passion for different cultures. People are my passion, so I made it my job. My educational background is in science, business, mental health, and organizational leadership. I’d say I am a bit of a “color-outside-the-box” type of person. My life experiences have been nothing but traditional, and that makes the fabric of who I am today. My work is heavily influenced by justice, equalizing the playing field, educating women (especially in communities in the global south), and increasing awareness and diversity.
Before you ventured into the world of entrepreneurship, what were your deepest passions and most cherished interests? What captivated your imagination, ignited your curiosity, or simply brought you joy?
I loved anything that had to do with medicine. I was that kid who did everything to immerse themselves in the medical world—from joining St. John’s Ambulance as a junior emergency technician in high school to shadowing a cardiologist at the University of Washington. Medicine was my passion and purpose until I found a different calling. I realized that helping people get better and be better brought me joy, which is why I was so fascinated by medicine.
This interest has evolved into a broader passion for behavioral psychology and the subconscious mind. I’ve always been an educator and lifelong learner, and people have always piqued my curiosity. Observing and learning from others is like being a kid in a candy store for me.
How do you stay connected with your customers and gather feedback? What channels do you use to communicate with them, and how do you ensure that their voices are heard?
Instagram has been my primary platform for connecting with my community. In the past, I’ve also used Facebook groups and micro-communities centered around shared interests, like reading. Recently, I co-hosted and produced an online talk show that created a platform for community voices to be heard.
Additionally, nothing beats one-on-one connections. I frequently have personal conversations with people from the global community, often while traveling. These interactions allow me to foster relationships and gather valuable feedback.
Looking back on your journey, what moments or milestones stand out as the most significant achievements in your career?
Expanding my business to the global community is a major milestone. Reflecting on my younger years, I never envisioned myself as a businesswoman. However, as life unfolded and I became passionate about challenging the status quo, I realized entrepreneurship was my path.
Among my industries of experience, the coaching and consulting field has been the most fulfilling. It allows me to do what I love, make a significant impact, and enjoy the benefits of time and location freedom. That independence has been a standout achievement for me.
How do you stay updated with the ever-evolving marketing landscape?
Initially, I was caught up in the whirlwind of changing marketing trends. Over time, I’ve focused on branding myself from a place of impact. My goal is to create lasting change and build a community around that impact, rather than simply jumping on trends.
As a conscious entrepreneur, I stay grounded by being intentional about whom I serve. The marketing landscape evolves constantly, but I prioritize staying true to my brand while adapting in meaningful ways.
What advice would you give to yourself if you could go back in time?
I would tell myself to take my time. Entrepreneurs often rush the process to achieve quick results, but I’ve learned that trusting the journey—both personal and professional—keeps me grounded. It also enables me to focus on my work with greater clarity.
What are your favorite resources as an entrepreneur?
Meditation, reading, and intentional breaks from my computer are crucial. Community is also essential—we can’t run this race alone. I rely on mental health resources, family, friends, and supportive networks.
Rest, however, is the biggest game-changer for me. I view rest as resistance, particularly as a Black woman who’s often told to push harder and go beyond limits. Whether it’s spiritual, emotional, mental, or physical, rest helps me recharge and thrive.
